2. Setup

2.1 Rapid Deployment with X-Clutch Hydraulic Technology

The Tribex tripod features patented X-Clutch hydraulic technology for quick and efficient setup. By squeezing a single clutch, all legs rapidly unfold, adjust their angle, and automatically lock into position within one second. The clutch can also be adjusted to 45° and 90° to accommodate various shooting scenarios, providing flexibility for different setups.

2.2 Height Adjustment and Low-Angle Shooting

The tripod's center column features a quick-lock design for easy height adjustments. For low-angle shooting, the center column can be removed, allowing the tripod to achieve a minimum height of 27cm (10.6 inches). The overall height ranges from 10.6 inches (27cm) to 66.1 inches (168cm), with a compact storage length of 31 inches (79cm).

2.3 Adapting to Various Terrains

The tripod includes quick-release rubber feet with integrated metal spikes. A single click allows you to switch between rubber feet for smooth surfaces and metal spikes for soft or uneven terrains, ensuring stable support in diverse environments. The three single tripod legs can be independently adjusted for fast balancing on uneven ground.

3. Operating Instructions

3.1 4-Step Counterbalance System

The lightweight fluid head features an adjustable 4-step dynamic counterbalance system (settings 0, 1, 2, 3). When the gravitational center height is set at 55mm (2.2 inches), this system effectively stabilizes cameras or other equipment weighing up to 6kg (13.2lbs), providing precise control over camera tilt.

3.2 Adjustable Step-Less Damping System

The professional video fluid head incorporates an adjustable step-less damping system. This allows for accurate adjustment of rotation and tilt damping force, ensuring smooth pan and tilt camera movements. It supports a tilt range of +90° to -65° and a full 360° swivel for multi-angle stable shooting.

3.3 Touch-and-Go Quick Release Mount Plate

The fluid head features a new Touch-and-Go quick release mount plate design, which eliminates the need for precise alignment, making it more efficient than traditional slide-in plates. This plate is compatible with MFT 501 quick release plates and DJI RS series quick release plates, facilitating swift transitions between stabilizers and tripods during filming.

4. Maintenance

To ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your SmallRig Tribex Tripod, regular maintenance is recommended:

  • Cleaning: Wipe down the carbon fiber legs and fluid head with a soft, dry cloth after each use to remove dust, dirt, or moisture. For stubborn grime, use a slightly damp cloth and dry thoroughly.
  • Lubrication: Periodically check the leg locking mechanisms and fluid head for smooth operation. If any stiffness is noted, apply a small amount of silicone-based lubricant to moving parts, avoiding excessive application.
  • Inspection: Regularly inspect all screws, bolts, and connections to ensure they are tight. Use the detachable Allen wrench (located in the hook of the center column) for any adjustments. Check the rubber feet and spikes for wear and tear.
  • Storage: Store the tripod in its provided storage bag in a cool, dry place away from extreme temperatures and humidity.

5. Troubleshooting

If you encounter any issues with your SmallRig Tribex Tripod, please refer to the following common troubleshooting tips:

  • Legs not extending/retracting smoothly: Ensure the X-Clutch mechanism is fully disengaged. Clean the leg sections to remove any debris and apply a small amount of silicone lubricant if necessary.
  • Fluid head movement is stiff or jerky: Check the damping adjustment knobs on the fluid head. Adjust them to a looser setting. Ensure no debris is obstructing the head's movement.
  • Camera not stable on fluid head: Verify that the Touch-and-Go QR plate is securely attached to both the camera and the fluid head. Adjust the 4-step counterbalance system to match your camera's weight and center of gravity.
  • Tripod wobbles on uneven ground: Ensure all three legs are fully extended and locked. Utilize the quick-release rubber feet with integrated spikes, switching to spikes if on soft terrain, and adjust individual leg angles for optimal stability.
