Leakbee RV Carbon Monoxide and Propane Detector User Manual

Model: R503 Flush Mount-White

1. Introduction

This manual provides detailed instructions for the installation, operation, and maintenance of your Leakbee R503 RV Carbon Monoxide (CO) and Propane (LP) Gas Detector. This device is designed to provide reliable detection of both carbon monoxide and propane gas leaks in recreational vehicles, motorhomes, travel trailers, motor coaches, and truck campers, ensuring the safety of occupants.

2. Safety Information

Please read all safety instructions carefully before installation and operation. Failure to follow these instructions may result in property damage, injury, or death.

  • Power Requirement: The detector operates on 12V DC power. Ensure correct polarity during wiring (red to positive, black to negative).
  • Alarm Operation: The alarm will not operate without power. The green power light must be on for proper function.
  • Replacement: Replace the detector 60 months (5 years) after initial power-on. An 'E' error code on the display indicates end-of-life.
  • Do Not Paint: Do not paint the detector. Painting can interfere with sensor operation and alarm functionality.
  • Ventilation: Ensure adequate ventilation in your RV. This detector is a warning device and does not replace proper ventilation.
  • Testing: Test the detector weekly to ensure proper operation.

3. Product Features

  • 2-in-1 Dual Detection: Adopts two independent, highly sensitive sensors for detecting both Carbon Monoxide (CO) and Propane (LP) gas leaks.
  • Wide Operational Voltage: Designed to operate with a 12V DC +/-20% power supply, suitable for various RV applications.
  • Visual & Audible Alarm: Features a digital LED display to show gas levels and emits an 85-decibel warning sound to alert occupants to danger.
  • Flush Mount Design: Designed for a clean, integrated look, compatible with existing cutouts for models like 31011.
  • Easy Installation: Equipped with lever nut connectors for simplified wiring, requiring no tape or complex wiring.

5. Installation

Follow these steps for proper installation of your Leakbee R503 detector.

  1. Choose Location: Install the detector approximately 4-12 inches (10-30 cm) away from the floor. Propane gas is heavier than air and tends to settle low. Carbon monoxide mixes with air, but placing the detector lower helps with propane detection. Avoid placing near windows, vents, or direct sunlight.
  2. Prepare Mounting Area: The face cover size is 4 5/8" Width x 4 5/8" Length. The wall cutout size should be between 2"~3 15/16" Width x 3 3/8"~3 15/16" Length. The distance between screw holes is compatible with existing 31011 models.
  3. Wire Connection:
    • Strip approximately 1/2 inch (around 12mm) of insulation from the existing 12V DC power wires in your RV.
    • Dismantle the orange operation handle straight on the included lever-nut connector.
    • Insert the stripped wires from your RV into the lever-nut connector. Ensure the 12V positive (+) wire (typically red) connects to the red wire of the detector, and the ground (-) wire (typically black) connects to the black wire of the detector.
    • Clip the lever-nut connector handles down to secure the wires.

  4. Mount the Detector: Secure the detector to the wall using the four mounting screws provided. Ensure it is flush and stable.
  5. Power On: Once installed, apply 12V DC power to the detector. The green power light should illuminate, indicating the unit is receiving power and beginning its warm-up cycle.

6. Operation

Once installed and powered, the detector will begin its operation. It has a warm-up phase of approximately 3 minutes upon initial power-on.

6.1 Indicators and Display

  • Digital LED Display: Shows the concentration level of carbon monoxide (CO x100PPM) or propane (LP %LEL) being sensed.
  • CO Indicator: A red light illuminates if carbon monoxide is detected.
  • LP Indicator: A red light illuminates if propane gas is detected.
  • Power Indicator: A green light indicates the unit is powered on and functioning correctly.

6.2 Alarm Conditions

The detector will activate an audible alarm and illuminate the corresponding indicator light under the following conditions:

  • CO Leak: Red CO indicator light illuminates, and the alarm sounds. The digital display will show the CO concentration.
  • LP Leak: Red LP indicator light illuminates, and the alarm sounds. The digital display will show the LP concentration.
  • Fault: If both CO and LP indicator lights illuminate simultaneously, it indicates a fault with the unit.
  • End of Life: The digital display will show 'E' when the detector reaches its end of life (60 months after initial power-on).

6.3 Test/Mute Button

Press the 'TEST/MUTE' button to perform a self-test of the alarm. During an active alarm, pressing this button will temporarily mute the audible alarm.

7. Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and proper functioning of your detector.

  • Weekly Test: Press the 'TEST/MUTE' button weekly to confirm the alarm is functioning.
  • Cleaning: Gently wipe the detector's surface with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners. Ensure the sensor vents are clear of dust and debris.
  • Avoid Obstruction: Do not block the sensor vents or paint the unit, as this can impair its ability to detect gases.
  • Replacement: The detector has a lifespan of 60 months (5 years) from its initial power-on. Replace the unit when the 'E' (End of Life) code appears on the display, or if it consistently shows a fault.

8. Troubleshooting

Refer to the table below for common issues and their solutions.

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
No power / Green light offNo 12V DC power, incorrect wiring, or power supply issue.Check 12V DC power source. Verify wiring connections (red to +, black to -). Check RV's fuse box.
Alarm sounds (CO or LP light on)Presence of Carbon Monoxide or Propane gas.Immediately ventilate the area. Turn off gas appliances. Evacuate occupants. Seek professional help if gas leak is suspected. Press Mute button to silence alarm temporarily.
Both CO & LP lights on / 'E' codeUnit fault or End of Life.If 'E' code, replace the unit. If fault, try power cycling the unit. If issue persists, replace the unit.
False alarmsStrong odors (cleaning products, aerosols), high humidity, or dust accumulation.Ventilate the area. Clean the detector. Relocate if consistently exposed to interfering substances.
