2. Safety Information

Always prioritize safety when operating heavy machinery. Failure to follow safety instructions can result in serious injury or death.

2.1 General Safety Precautions

  • Read and understand all instructions in this manual before operation.
  • Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), including safety glasses, hearing protection, sturdy footwear, and gloves.
  • Ensure the work area is clear of bystanders, especially children and pets.
  • Operate the compactor only in well-ventilated areas to avoid carbon monoxide poisoning.
  • Never operate the machine under the influence of drugs, alcohol, or medication that may impair judgment.

2.2 Fuel Safety

  • Handle fuel with extreme care. It is highly flammable.
  • Store fuel in approved containers in a cool, well-ventilated area.
  • Never refuel the engine while it is running or hot. Allow the engine to cool before adding fuel.

4. Operating Instructions

4.1 Starting the Engine

  1. Ensure the fuel valve is open and the engine switch is in the 'ON' position.
  2. If the engine is cold, apply choke as needed.
  3. Pull the recoil starter handle firmly until the engine starts.
  4. Once started, gradually return the choke to the 'OFF' position.

4.2 Compaction Technique

Guide the compactor over the area to be compacted. The TPC80 has a compaction force of 3000 lbs/ft² and can compact cohesive and granular soils up to 22 inches deep. For optimal results, make overlapping passes. The beveled 17" x 21" plate is designed for smooth compaction without digging into the material.

5. Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and optimal performance of your plate compactor.

5.1 Engine Maintenance

Refer to the Kohler engine manual for detailed maintenance schedules, including oil changes, air filter cleaning/replacement, and spark plug inspection.

5.2 General Cleaning

After each use, clean the compactor, especially the base plate, to remove dirt, debris, and compacted material. This prevents buildup that could affect performance.

5.3 NSK Bearings

The TPC80 runs on NSK bearings for smooth vibration and extended equipment life. Periodically inspect the bearings for any signs of wear or damage. Lubricate as recommended by the manufacturer.
