Figure-3: Control Levers and Switches Diagram Description

This diagram illustrates the operating controls:

4.2 Check the Engine Oil Level

CAUTION: Engine oil is critical for performance and service life. Non-detergent and 2-stroke oils are not recommended. Check the oil level with the engine on a level surface and stopped.

4.3 Motor Oil

Use Honda 4-stroke oil or an equivalent high detergent, premium quality motor oil certified to meet or exceed U.S. automobile manufacturer's requirements (Service Classification SG, SF). SAE 10W/30 is recommended for general use. Other viscosity grades may be used based on ambient temperature.

Figure-4: Viscosity Grade Chart Description

This chart shows recommended motor oil viscosity grades based on ambient temperature. It includes single-grade oils (5W, 10W, 20W, #20, #30, #40) and multi-grade oils (10W-30, 10W-40). The temperature scale ranges from -20°C to 40°C (-4°F to 104°F).

4.4 Checking Oil

To check the oil level:

  1. Ensure the engine is on a level position.
  2. Remove and wipe clean the oil filler cap/dipstick.
  3. Insert the dipstick into the oil filler neck without screwing it in.
  4. Remove the dipstick and check the oil level.
  5. If low, fill to the top of the oil filler neck with recommended oil.
  6. Reinstall the oil filler cap/dipstick.

Starting and Operating

4.5 Check Engine Fuel

WARNING: Review all warnings to prevent fire hazards. Do not refill while the engine is running or hot. Close fuel shutoff valve before refueling. Keep fuel away from open flames and smoking materials. Wipe off spilled fuel. Avoid prolonged contact with skin or breathing of vapor. Keep out of reach of children.

4.6 Check Fuel Level

Remove the fuel tank cap. If the fuel level is low, refill with unleaded automotive gasoline.

5.1 Pre-Start Checks

WARNING: Keep the area clear of flammables or other hazardous materials.

Check the following before starting the engine:

5.2 Starting and Operating the Engine

  1. Refer to the Honda engine owner's manual.
  2. Put the fuel valve in the ON position.
  3. Move the choke lever to the closed position. (Note: Choke may not be needed if the engine is warm or air temperature is high.)
  4. Set the ON/OFF switch to ON.
  5. Move the throttle lever slightly to the left.
  6. Pull the starter grip lightly until resistance is felt, then pull briskly. (Note: Do not let the starter grip snap back; return it gently.)
  7. As the engine warms up, gradually move the choke lever to the OPEN position.

5.3 Using the Centrifugal Pump

  1. Connect suction and discharge hoses. Ensure the suction hose has a strainer.
  2. Remove the priming plug from the top of the pump and fill the chamber with water.
  3. Operate the engine at idle speed for 3 to 5 minutes.
  4. After the engine warms up, move the throttle lever to the operating speed.

5.4 Stopping the Centrifugal Pump

  1. Move the throttle lever fully to the right.
  2. Set the ON/OFF switch to OFF.
  3. Turn the fuel valve to the OFF position.

Changing Engine Oil

6.1 Oil Alert

The oil alert sensor stops the engine if the oil level falls below a predetermined level. If the engine stops automatically, check and refill the oil to the upper level. If the engine does not start, check the oil level.

6.2 Changing Engine Oil

Perform an initial oil change after the first twenty (20) hours of use. Thereafter, change oil every 200 hours or as directed on the oil packaging.
