Important: Remove the red rubber plug from the bottom of the water tank before first use to allow water flow.

4.3 First Use / Priming the Pump

Before brewing coffee for the first time, or if the machine has not been used for a long period, it is essential to prime the pump to ensure proper water flow.

  1. Ensure the water tank is filled.
  2. Place a large cup or container under the brewing head and steam wand.
  3. Plug the machine into a grounded electrical outlet. Press the power button to turn it on. The indicator lights will flash as the machine preheats.
  4. Once the machine is preheated (lights stop flashing), press the espresso button to run water through the brewing head for about 30 seconds.
  5. Turn the steam knob to the steam position to release steam/hot water through the steam wand for about 30 seconds.
  6. Turn the steam knob back to the off position. The machine is now primed and ready for use.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1 Pre-heating the Machine

For optimal espresso extraction and temperature, ensure the machine is fully preheated. The NTC intelligent temperature control system helps maintain a stable brewing temperature.

The NTC intelligent temperature control ensures a stable and consistent brewing temperature for optimal flavor.

  1. Ensure the water tank is filled.
  2. Turn on the machine using the power button.
  3. Allow the machine to preheat for at least 2-3 minutes until the indicator lights stop flashing, indicating it has reached the optimal brewing temperature.
  4. For best results, attach the portafilter (empty) to the group head during preheating to warm it up.

5.2 Making Espresso

The KitchenBoss machine features a 20 Bar high-pressure pump and a pre-soaking function for rich crema and full flavor.

Low pressure pre-infusion gently soaks the coffee grounds, ensuring uniform extraction and enhancing flavor and aroma.

  1. Grind Coffee: Use fresh, finely ground coffee. The grind size should be suitable for espresso machines.
  2. Fill Portafilter: Place the desired filter basket (single or double) into the portafilter. Fill with ground coffee.
  3. Tamp: Tamp the coffee grounds firmly and evenly using a coffee tamper. Ensure the surface is level.
  4. Attach Portafilter: Securely attach the portafilter to the group head by inserting it and rotating it to the right until it locks into place.
  5. Place Cup: Place your espresso cup(s) on the drip tray directly under the portafilter spouts.
  6. Brew: Once the machine is preheated, press the espresso button (single or double shot, if applicable). The machine will initiate the pre-soaking function, then begin brewing. Monitor the pressure gauge for optimal extraction (typically in the green zone).
  7. Stop Brewing: The machine will automatically stop brewing after a preset time for a single or double shot. You can also manually stop it by pressing the espresso button again.
  8. Remove Portafilter: Carefully remove the portafilter by rotating it to the left. Dispose of the used coffee grounds (puck).

5.3 Frothing Milk (Steam Wand)

The powerful steam wand allows you to create perfectly frothed milk for cappuccinos and lattes.

  1. Prepare Milk: Fill a stainless steel frothing pitcher with cold milk (dairy or non-dairy) to just below the spout.
  2. Activate Steam: Press the steam button on the control panel. Wait for the steam indicator light to illuminate steadily, indicating the machine has reached steaming temperature.
  3. Purge Wand: Position an empty cup under the steam wand and briefly turn the steam knob to release any condensed water. Turn the knob off.
  4. Froth Milk: Immerse the tip of the steam wand just below the surface of the milk. Turn the steam knob to the steam position.
  5. Create Foam: Keep the wand tip near the surface to create foam, then lower it slightly to heat the milk. Move the pitcher in a circular motion to incorporate air evenly.
  6. Monitor Temperature: Continue until the milk reaches your desired temperature (around 60-70°C or 140-160°F). The pitcher will become hot to the touch.
  7. Stop Steaming: Turn the steam knob off, then remove the pitcher.
  8. Clean Wand: Immediately wipe the steam wand with a damp cloth to remove any milk residue. Briefly purge the wand again to clear any internal milk.

6. Maintenance and Cleaning

Regular cleaning ensures the longevity and optimal performance of your espresso machine.

6.1 Daily Cleaning

  • Portafilter and Filter Baskets: After each use, remove the coffee grounds and rinse the portafilter and filter basket under warm water. Use a brush to remove any stubborn residue.
  • Drip Tray: Empty and rinse the drip tray daily.
  • Steam Wand: As mentioned in the operating instructions, wipe the steam wand immediately after each use and purge it to prevent milk blockage.
  • Group Head: After removing the portafilter, briefly run water through the group head to rinse away any loose coffee grounds.
  • Exterior: Wipe the exterior of the machine with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or scouring pads.

6.2 Weekly Cleaning

  • Water Tank: Remove the water tank, empty any remaining water, and wash it with warm, soapy water. Rinse thoroughly and refill with fresh water.
  • Shower Screen: Periodically inspect the shower screen (inside the group head) for coffee residue. If heavily soiled, you may need to gently scrub it with a brush.

6.3 Descaling

Over time, mineral deposits (limescale) can build up inside the machine, affecting performance and taste. Descale your machine every 2-3 months, or more frequently if you have hard water.

  1. Use a commercial descaling solution designed for espresso machines, following the manufacturer's instructions. Alternatively, you can use a solution of white vinegar and water (1 part vinegar to 2 parts water).
  2. Fill the water tank with the descaling solution.
  3. Place a large container under the group head and steam wand.
  4. Run half of the solution through the group head by pressing the espresso button.
  5. Run the remaining half of the solution through the steam wand.
  6. After running the solution, rinse the water tank thoroughly and fill it with fresh water.
  7. Run several full tanks of fresh water through both the group head and steam wand to rinse out any descaling solution residue.
