1. Introduction

The PEAKMETER PM6811 Wood Moisture Meter is a high-sensitivity digital instrument designed for accurately measuring moisture content in various materials such as wood, cardboard, and flooring. It features temperature compensation, multiple wood species selection, and a clear LCD display with backlight for intuitive readings. This manual provides detailed instructions for the proper use and maintenance of your device.

3. Product Components

Familiarize yourself with the main components of the PM6811 moisture meter:

  1. High-sensitivity Metal Probe: Used for inserting into the material to measure moisture content.
  2. LCD Screen with Backlight: Displays measurement readings, battery status, and mode indicators.
  3. Protective Cover: Protects the metal probes when the device is not in use.
  4. Power Button (HOLD): Turns the device on/off and activates the data hold function.
  5. Species Selection / Temperature Switch Button (°F/°C): Allows selection of wood species groups and toggles between Fahrenheit and Celsius temperature units.
  6. Backlight / Mode Button (MODE): Activates/deactivates the backlight and cycles through measurement modes (wood, paper, wall).

4. Setup

4.1 Battery Installation

The PM6811 requires 2 AAA batteries (not included). Follow these steps to install them:

  1. Locate the battery compartment cover on the back of the device.
  2. Slide the cover open.
  3. Insert 2 AAA batteries, ensuring correct polarity (+/-).
  4. Close the battery compartment cover securely.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1 Power On/Off

  • To power on the device, press the HOLD button.
  • To power off the device, press and hold the HOLD button for a few seconds until the display turns off. The device also features an automatic shutdown function after approximately 5 minutes of inactivity.

5.2 Mode Selection

The PM6811 supports different measurement modes for various materials. Press the MODE button to cycle through the following options:

  • Wood: For measuring moisture content in wood.
  • Paper: For measuring moisture content in paper and cardboard.
  • Wall: For measuring moisture content in walls (e.g., drywall, plaster).

5.3 Wood Species Selection

For accurate wood moisture measurements, select the appropriate wood species group. Press the °F/°C button to cycle through the four wood species types (1, 2, 3, 4). Refer to the "Tree Species Type Comparison Table" in the Specifications section for details on which wood types belong to each group.

5.4 Taking a Measurement

  1. Ensure the device is powered on and the correct mode (Wood, Paper, or Wall) is selected.
  2. Remove the protective cover from the metal probes.
  3. Carefully insert the metal probes into the material you wish to measure. Ensure good contact.
  4. Read the moisture content percentage displayed on the LCD screen.
  5. To hold the current reading on the display, briefly press the HOLD button. Press it again to release.
  6. After measurement, replace the protective cover to prevent damage to the probes.

5.5 Backlight Control

The LCD backlight improves readability in dim conditions. Press the MODE button briefly to toggle the backlight on or off. The backlight automatically turns off after approximately 15 seconds to save battery.

The backlight color indicates the moisture level:

  • Green: Low moisture content.
  • Yellow: Medium moisture content.
  • Red: High moisture content.

6. Maintenance

  • Always replace the protective cover over the probes when the meter is not in use to prevent damage and injury.
  • Clean the device with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
  • If the device will not be used for an extended period, remove the batteries to prevent leakage.
  • Store the meter in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.

7. Troubleshooting

  • Tree Species 1: Rhodesian teak, red bean tree, Brazilian walnut tree (2.0%~25.0%)
  • Tree Species 2: Walnut, clone, native poplar, teak (3.0%~30.0%)
  • Tree Species 3: Fir, Douglas fir, Koombar, white fir, white pine, loblolly pine, maple wood, ash wood, oak (4.0%~35.0%)
