5. Setup
5.1 Placement
Place the feeder on a flat, stable surface. For optimal RFID performance, ensure the feeder is within 6 feet of a wall outlet and at least 6 feet apart from other PortionPro Rx feeders if you have multiple units.
5.2 Power Connection
- Connect the power adapter to the feeder unit.
- Plug the power adapter into a standard wall outlet.
5.3 Filling the Food Bin
- Open the lid of the food bin.
- Pour dry kibble into the bin. The bin can hold up to 32 cups (approximately 6 lbs) of dry food.
- Close the lid securely. The lid is designed to be pet-proof and self-locking.
- Recommended kibble size is 5/8 inch or less, and non-irregular shaped kibble is advised for smooth dispensing.
6. Operating Instructions
6.1 RFID Tag Pairing and Access Control
The patented active RFID system controls access to food, ensuring only pets wearing assigned tags can eat from the feeder. The feeder recognizes the tag at approximately 2 feet, offering more accurate recognition than passive RFID technologies.

To pair an RFID tag with the feeder, refer to the specific instructions on the feeder's control panel (Image 5) or the quick start guide included with your product. Each pet requiring access to this feeder should wear a paired collar tag. The feeder does not work with standard microchips.

6.2 Setting Meal Schedules and Portions
The feeder allows for customizable meal plans to maintain your pet's healthy weight. The total daily food amount can be set in 1/8-cup increments from 1/2 cup to 3 cups, and in 1/4-cup increments from 3 to 6 cups. This daily amount can be divided into 2, 4, or 6 meals per day for cats, and 2 or 3 meals per day for dogs.
- Use the control panel (Image 5) to navigate through the settings.
- Set the desired total daily food amount.
- Select the number of meals per day.
- Adjust the time for each meal.
6.3 Understanding Feeder Modes
The PortionPro Rx feeder offers two operational modes:
6.3.1 Open Mode
In Open Mode, the feeder remains open until a pet without an assigned tag approaches. When an unauthorized pet is detected, the feeder door will close to prevent access.

Image 6: Open Mode. This illustration shows the feeder in an open state (green light) and then closing (red light with arrow) when a cat without an authorized tag approaches.
6.3.2 Closed Mode
In Closed Mode, the feeder door remains closed until a pet with an assigned tag approaches. When an authorized pet is detected, the feeder door will open, granting access to the food.

7. Maintenance
7.1 Cleaning the Feeder
Regular cleaning ensures hygiene and proper operation.
- Unplug the feeder from the power outlet.
- Remove any remaining kibble from the food bin.
- Disassemble the food bin and bowl components.
- Hand wash only all removable parts with mild soap and water. Rinse thoroughly.
- Wipe the main feeder unit with a damp cloth. Do not immerse the main unit in water.
- Ensure all parts are completely dry before reassembling and refilling.
7.2 RFID Tag Battery Replacement
The RFID tag uses one CR2032 battery. When the tag's signal weakens or the feeder has difficulty recognizing it, it may be time to replace the battery.
- Carefully open the RFID tag casing.
- Remove the old CR2032 battery.
- Insert a new CR2032 battery, ensuring correct polarity.
- Close the tag casing securely to maintain splash resistance.
