Setup

1. Initial Winding

Your Citizen Tsuyosa watch is powered by an automatic mechanical movement. If the watch has stopped, it requires an initial manual wind to start. To do this:

  1. Ensure the crown is in position 0 (fully pushed in).
  2. Rotate the crown clockwise approximately 30-40 times. This will build up sufficient power reserve to start the watch.
  3. Once started, the watch will continue to wind itself through the motion of your arm while worn.

2. Setting the Time and Date

To set the time and date on your watch:

  1. Pull the crown out to position 2 (the outermost position). The second hand will stop.
  2. Rotate the crown to set the hour and minute hands. To avoid confusion between AM and PM for the date change, advance the hands past 12 o'clock. If the date changes, you are in the AM hours.
  3. Push the crown in to position 1 (middle position).
  4. Rotate the crown to set the date. Turn it until the correct date appears. Avoid setting the date between 9 PM and 3 AM, as this can damage the movement. If the current time falls within this period, first adjust the time outside this window, set the date, then reset the time.
  5. Pull the crown out to position 2 again.
  6. Set the exact time. Synchronize with a reliable time source.
  7. Push the crown back to position 0 (fully pushed in) to start the watch and ensure water resistance.

3. Bracelet Adjustment

The stainless steel bracelet can be adjusted to fit your wrist. This typically involves removing or adding links. It is recommended to have this adjustment performed by a qualified watchmaker or an authorized Citizen service center to prevent damage to the bracelet or clasp.

Operating Instructions

Automatic Movement

Your watch is equipped with an automatic mechanical movement. This means it is powered by the natural motion of your wrist. When worn regularly (approximately 8-10 hours a day), the oscillating weight inside the watch winds the mainspring, providing power. If the watch is not worn for an extended period, the power reserve will deplete, and the watch will stop. Simply manually wind it as described in the "Initial Winding" section or wear it to restart.

Date Display

The watch features a date display at the 3 o'clock position. The date automatically advances once every 24 hours. If the date needs adjustment (e.g., after a month with fewer than 31 days), refer to the "Setting the Time and Date" section.

Water Resistance (5 Bar)

This watch is water resistant to 5 bar (50 meters). This rating means it is suitable for everyday use and can withstand splashes, rain, and brief immersion in water. It is not suitable for swimming, showering, or diving. Always ensure the crown is fully pushed in to maintain water resistance. Avoid operating the crown while the watch is wet.

Maintenance

Cleaning Your Watch

To maintain the appearance of your watch:

  • Wipe the case and crystal with a soft, dry cloth regularly.
  • For the stainless steel bracelet, use a soft brush and mild soapy water to clean dirt from between the links. Rinse thoroughly with clean water and dry immediately with a soft cloth.
  • Avoid using harsh chemicals, solvents, or abrasive cleaning materials.

Environmental Considerations

  • Temperature: Avoid exposing your watch to extreme temperatures (above 60°C / 140°F or below 0°C / 32°F) or sudden temperature changes, as this can affect the movement's accuracy and seals.
  • Magnetic Fields: Keep your watch away from strong magnetic fields (e.g., speakers, refrigerators, mobile phones, medical devices), as magnetism can affect the accuracy of mechanical watches. If your watch becomes magnetized, it may require demagnetization by a professional.
  • Shocks: While robust, avoid severe impacts or shocks to the watch.

Regular Servicing

Like any precision mechanical instrument, your watch benefits from periodic servicing to ensure its long-term accuracy and water resistance. It is recommended to have your watch inspected and serviced by an authorized Citizen service center every 3-5 years.

Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your watch, please refer to the following common solutions before contacting customer support.

  • Watch has stopped: If the watch has stopped, it likely needs to be wound. Manually wind the watch by rotating the crown clockwise 30-40 times while it is in position 0. Then, wear the watch regularly to maintain its power reserve.
  • Inaccurate time:
    • Ensure the watch is fully wound and worn consistently.
    • Check if the watch has been exposed to strong magnetic fields. If so, it may need demagnetization.
    • If accuracy issues persist, the watch may require servicing by an authorized technician.
  • Date not changing or changing at incorrect time:
    • Ensure the time is set correctly, distinguishing between AM and PM. The date typically changes around midnight.
    • Avoid setting the date manually between 9 PM and 3 AM.
    • If the issue continues, professional inspection may be necessary.
  • Condensation under crystal: This indicates a potential breach in water resistance. Immediately take the watch to an authorized service center to prevent further damage to the movement.
