1. Safety Information
Please read and understand all instructions before installing or operating this low voltage landscape lighting transformer. Failure to follow these instructions may result in electric shock, fire, or other hazards.
- Electrical Safety: Ensure the main power supply is disconnected before any installation or maintenance. This transformer operates on 120V AC input and provides 12V-15V AC output. All wiring should comply with local and national electrical codes.
- Outdoor Use: This transformer is designed for outdoor use and is weatherproof. However, ensure all connections are secure and protected from direct water exposure.
- Grounding: The transformer must be properly grounded to prevent electrical hazards.
- Load Capacity: Do not exceed the maximum wattage of 75W. Overloading the transformer can cause damage and create a fire hazard.
- Children and Pets: Keep the transformer and wiring out of reach of children and pets.

Figure 2.1: Lightkiwi U2184 75W Transformer, front view.
Key Features:
- Multi-Tap Output Voltage: Provides 12V, 13V, 14V, and 15V AC output options to compensate for voltage drop over extended wire runs, ensuring consistent brightness.
- High-Performance Toroidal Core: Ensures quiet operation, superior reliability, and high efficiency in energy transfer.
- Dual Protection: Features an auto-reset thermal circuit breaker for primary protection and a 7A magnetic circuit breaker for secondary protection against voltage fluctuations and surges.
- Integrated Mechanical Timer: Allows for precise scheduling of lighting operation.
- Photocell Port: Compatible with an optional photocell (sold separately) for automatic dusk-to-dawn operation.
- Weatherproof Construction: Made with heavy-duty stainless steel for resistance to rust and outdoor elements.
3. Setup and Installation
3.1 Mounting the Transformer
The Lightkiwi U2184 transformer is designed for wall mounting. Choose a suitable outdoor location that is easily accessible, close to a 120V AC power outlet, and protected from direct impact or excessive moisture. Ensure the mounting surface is sturdy enough to support the transformer's weight (approximately 7.36 pounds).
- Mark the desired mounting points on the wall using the transformer's mounting bracket as a template.
- Drill appropriate pilot holes for the mounting screws. For brick or masonry, use lag shields and lag bolts for secure installation.
- Securely fasten the transformer to the wall.
3.2 Wiring Connections
Before making any connections, ensure the transformer is unplugged from the 120V AC power source.

Figure 3.1: Internal wiring terminals for multi-tap output.
- Input Power: Plug the transformer's 18AWG SJTW power cord (70 inches long) into a grounded 120V AC outdoor outlet.
- Low Voltage Output: Open the transformer door to access the low voltage terminals. You will see terminals labeled 'Com1', '12V', '13V', '14V', and '15V'.
- Connect Landscape Wires: Connect your low voltage landscape lighting wires to the appropriate terminals. The 'Com1' terminal is the common return. The other terminals (12V, 13V, 14V, 15V) provide different voltage outputs.
- Voltage Selection: Choose the output voltage based on your lighting system's requirements and the length of your wire runs. Longer wire runs may benefit from higher voltage taps (e.g., 14V or 15V) to counteract voltage drop and maintain consistent light output.
- Secure Connections: Ensure all wire connections are tight and secure. Use appropriate wire connectors if combining multiple wires to a single terminal.
4. Operating Instructions
4.1 Using the Integrated Mechanical Timer
The transformer includes a built-in mechanical timer for automated operation of your landscape lights.

Figure 4.1: Setting the mechanical timer.
- Set Current Time: Rotate the outer dial of the timer clockwise until the current time aligns with the arrow indicator.
- Set ON Time: Slide the small black tabs on the outer edge of the timer dial towards the center for the periods you want the lights to be ON. Each tab typically represents 15 or 30 minutes.
- Set OFF Time: Leave the tabs away from the center for the periods you want the lights to be OFF.
- Caution: Do not turn the timer dial counter-clockwise, as this may damage the mechanism.
4.2 Using the Photocell (Optional)
An optional photocell (sold separately, Model: L6709, ASIN: B074N9FNWH) can be connected to the designated photocell port to enable automatic dusk-to-dawn operation.

Figure 4.2: Photocell port and automatic operation.
- Installation: Plug the photocell into the dedicated photocell port on the transformer. Ensure the photocell is positioned where it can detect ambient light without obstruction.
- Operation: When the photocell detects low light levels (dusk), it will automatically turn on the connected lights. When it detects sufficient light (dawn), it will turn off the lights.
- Note: If using a photocell, the mechanical timer may need to be set to an 'always on' state or bypassed, depending on the specific photocell model and desired functionality. Consult the photocell's instructions for details.
5. Maintenance
Regular maintenance helps ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your Lightkiwi U2184 transformer.
- Cleaning: Periodically wipe the exterior of the transformer with a damp cloth to remove dirt and debris. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
- Inspect Wiring: Annually inspect all wiring connections for signs of wear, corrosion, or damage. Ensure all terminals are tight.
- Check Circuit Breakers: The transformer is equipped with internal circuit breakers. If lights fail to operate, check if a breaker has tripped. Reset if necessary. If tripping persists, consult a qualified electrician.
- Environmental Protection: While weatherproof, avoid prolonged submersion or exposure to extreme conditions beyond its design specifications.
6. Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues with your transformer, refer to the following common troubleshooting steps:
- Lights Not Turning On:
- Check if the transformer is plugged into a live 120V AC outlet.
- Verify the mechanical timer settings are correct (if in use).
- Ensure the photocell is not obstructed and is functioning correctly (if in use).
- Check the circuit breakers on the transformer; reset if tripped.
- Inspect all low voltage wiring connections for looseness or corrosion.
- Confirm that the total wattage of connected lights does not exceed 75W.
- Lights Are Dim:
- This may indicate voltage drop. Try connecting your landscape wires to a higher voltage tap (e.g., 13V, 14V, or 15V) on the transformer.
- Ensure wire gauge is appropriate for the length of the run and total wattage.
- Transformer Making Unusual Noise:
- A slight hum is normal for toroidal core transformers. If the noise is loud or unusual, disconnect power and contact support.
If these steps do not resolve the issue, contact Lightkiwi customer support for further assistance.
