4.2 Wire Mesh Installation

  1. Unroll the PVC-coated hexagonal wire mesh.
  2. Starting from one end, attach the mesh to the frame using the provided zip ties. Ensure the mesh is pulled taut to prevent sagging and create a secure enclosure.
  3. Work your way around the entire frame, securing the mesh at regular intervals (approximately every 6-8 inches). You may need additional zip ties beyond what is provided to ensure maximum security and tension.
  4. Trim any excess mesh or zip tie ends for a neat finish and to prevent snagging.

4.3 Door Installation

  1. Assemble the door frame according to the instructions.
  2. Attach the door assembly to the designated opening in the main frame using the provided hinges and hardware.
  3. Install the safe lock mechanism on the door. Ensure the door opens and closes smoothly and the latch secures properly.

6. Maintenance

Regular maintenance will extend the lifespan of your chicken coop and ensure the well-being of your animals.

  • Cleaning: Periodically clean the wire mesh and frame with mild soap and water. Rinse thoroughly and allow to dry. Remove any animal waste regularly.
  • Inspection: Regularly check all frame connections, bolts, and zip ties for tightness. Re-tighten or replace as needed. Inspect the wire mesh for any damage or holes that could compromise security.
  • Cover Care: Ensure the PE cover remains taut to prevent water or snow accumulation, which could cause damage. Clean the cover with a damp cloth if it becomes dirty. In areas with heavy snowfall, gently remove snow from the cover to prevent excessive weight.
  • Ground Anchoring: Re-check any ground anchors or stakes periodically, especially after strong winds or heavy rain, to ensure the coop remains securely fastened.

7. Troubleshooting

  • Issue: Insufficient Zip Ties for Mesh.
Solution: The provided quantity of zip ties is a starting point. For optimal security and mesh tension, it is highly recommended to purchase additional zip ties from a local hardware store. Apply them at closer intervals for a more robust enclosure.
  • Issue: Frame Appears Flimsy or Roof Sags.
Solution: Ensure all pipe connections are fully inserted and secured. The wire mesh plays a crucial role in the structural integrity; ensure it is pulled as taut as possible and secured with ample zip ties. For the arched roof, verify that the curved pipes are correctly aligned and supported. If sagging persists, consider adding additional cross-supports or bracing (not included) to reinforce the structure.
  • Issue: Door is Not Sturdy or Does Not Close Properly.
Solution: Re-check the assembly of the door frame and its attachment to the main coop. Ensure all bolts and hinges are tightened. If the door still feels unstable, you may need to reinforce the door frame connections or adjust the alignment of the hinges.
