1. Important Safety Information

Please read and follow all instructions carefully before installation and use. Keep these instructions for future reference.

  • This safety gate is designed for use with children from 6 to 24 months of age.
  • This gate is suitable for openings between 29.5 inches (75 cm) and 40.5 inches (103 cm). Always measure your opening before purchase and installation.
  • WARNING: Never use this gate at the top of stairs without hardware mounting. Pressure mounting is suitable for doorways and hallways.
  • WARNING: Always ensure the gate is securely installed and latched before leaving a child or pet unattended.
  • WARNING: Do not use this gate if any components are damaged or missing.
  • Regularly check all fittings and mounting points to ensure they remain tight and secure.
  • Never allow children to climb on the gate.
  • The pet door is intended for small pets only. Ensure larger pets cannot pass through or become stuck.

Included Parts:

  • Main Gate Frame with Door
  • Extension Panels (if applicable, for wider openings)
  • 4 x Pressure Bolts
  • 4 x Wall Cups
  • 4 x Dry Wall Anchors (for hardware mounting)
  • 4 x Screws (for hardware mounting)
  • 1 x Wrench
  • 2 x Y-Spindle Rods (optional, for banister installation)

3. Installation Instructions

The gate can be installed using two methods: Pressure Mounted or Hardware Mounted.

Important Pre-Installation Note:

Diagram showing the gate before and after installation. Before installation, there is a visible gap at the handle and a zip tie holding the gate together. After installation, the gap is closed, and the zip tie is cut. A warning states: 'DO NOT cut off the belt before installation is completed!!!'

Image 3.1: Do not cut the zip tie before installation is complete. The initial gap is normal.

The gate will appear to have a gap at the handle and be held together by a zip tie before installation. This is normal and not a defect. The gap will close as the pressure bolts are tightened. DO NOT cut the zip tie until the gate is fully installed and secured. If the tie is cut accidentally, use extra ties provided in the package before proceeding with installation.

3.1. Pressure Mounted Installation (for Doorways/Hallways)

This method is for easy installation and removal, suitable for areas where drilling is not desired.

  1. Measure your opening to ensure it falls within the gate's adjustable range (29.5" to 40.5").
  2. Insert the four pressure bolts into the corners of the gate frame.
  3. Position the gate in the desired opening.
  4. Rotate the adjustment wheels on the pressure bolts clockwise to extend them until they make contact with the wall or door frame.
  5. Continue tightening the pressure bolts evenly until the gate is firmly secured and the gap at the handle is closed. Ensure the gate is level and stable.
  6. Once the gate is securely installed, cut the zip tie.
Illustration of pressure mounted installation steps: 1. Insert pressure bolts into four corners. 2. Rotate to tighten the pressure bolts. 3. Cut off the zip tie after installation.

3.2. Hardware Mounted Installation (for Stairs or Added Security)

This method provides maximum security and is recommended for use at the top of stairs.

  1. Follow steps 1-3 from the pressure mounted installation.
  2. Mark the positions for the wall cups on the wall or door frame. Ensure the gate is level.
  3. Drill pilot holes at the marked positions. If installing into drywall, insert the drywall anchors.
  4. Attach the wall cups to the wall using the provided screws.
  5. Insert the pressure bolts into the gate and align them with the installed wall cups.
  6. Tighten the pressure bolts evenly until the gate is firmly secured within the wall cups and the gap at the handle is closed.
  7. Once the gate is securely installed, cut the zip tie.

3.3. Installing with Y-Spindle Rods (for Round/Irregular Banisters)

If installing against round or irregularly shaped banisters, use the included Y-Spindle Rods.

  1. Replace the standard pressure bolts with the Y-Spindle Rods on the side of the gate that will be against the banister.
  2. Position the gate and ensure the Y-Spindle Rods cradle the banister securely.
  3. Tighten the Y-Spindle Rods and any remaining pressure bolts evenly until the gate is stable.

4. Operating Instructions

4.1. Opening and Closing the Main Gate

The gate features a double-lock mechanism for enhanced safety and one-handed operation.

  1. To open, simultaneously lift the buckle and push the gate open.
  2. The gate will automatically close when opened less than 90 degrees.
  3. To keep the gate open, push it past 90 degrees, and it will remain in the open position.

4.2. Using the Cat Door

The integrated pet door allows small pets to pass through while keeping larger pets or children contained.

  • The pet door measures 7.6 x 10.1 inches.
  • To open the pet door, slide the latch mechanism.
  • To close and secure the pet door, slide the latch back into place.

5. Maintenance

  • Clean the gate regularly with a damp cloth and mild soap. Do not use abrasive cleaners or harsh chemicals.
  • Periodically check all screws, bolts, and locking mechanisms to ensure they are tight and functioning correctly.
  • If any part becomes damaged, discontinue use immediately and contact customer support for replacement parts.

6. Troubleshooting

6.1. Gate Does Not Close Properly or Feels Loose

  • Check Pressure Bolts: Ensure all four pressure bolts are tightened evenly. The gate should be snug in the opening.
  • Verify Zip Tie Removal: Confirm the zip tie was cut ONLY after the gate was fully tightened. If cut prematurely, the gate may not achieve proper tension.
  • Re-adjust: Loosen all pressure bolts slightly, reposition the gate, and then re-tighten them evenly.
  • Surface Compatibility: Ensure the mounting surface is flat and sturdy. Uneven surfaces can prevent proper tension.

6.2. Gate Extension Appears Deformed

Comparison image showing 'ours' (gate with extension and fixer, not easily deformed) versus 'others' (gate with extension but no fixer, easily deformed).

Image 6.1: Comparison of gate extension designs.

  • The COMOMY gate uses a metal welded slot with a fixer to prevent deformation. If you experience deformation, ensure the extension is correctly inserted and secured.
  • Avoid excessive force during installation that could bend components.
