2. Important Safety Instructions

To reduce the risk of electric shock, fire, and damage to the unit, please observe the following safety precautions:

3. Setup

3.1 Unpacking and Inspection

Carefully unpack your XENYX 1003B mixer and inspect it for any signs of damage that may have occurred during transit. If damage is found, contact your dealer immediately. Retain the original packing materials for future shipping or storage.

3.2 Power Connection

Connect the supplied power adapter to the DC INPUT jack on the rear panel of the mixer. Ensure the power switch is in the OFF position before connecting to a power outlet. The mixer operates on 9 Volts DC.

3.3 Input Connections

The XENYX 1003B offers versatile input options:

• Microphone Inputs (MIC 1-5): Use balanced XLR cables for connecting microphones. These inputs feature high-quality XENYX mic preamps.
• Line Inputs (LINE 1-5): Use 1/4" TRS or TS cables for connecting line-level devices such as keyboards, drum machines, or other audio interfaces. Channels 3/4, 5/6, and 7/8 are stereo line inputs.

3.4 Output Connections

Connect your monitoring and recording devices to the following outputs:

• MAIN OUT (1/4" TRS): These are the primary stereo outputs for connecting to power amplifiers, powered speakers, or recording interfaces.
• MON OUT (1/4" TS): Used for connecting to a stage monitor or a separate monitoring system.
• FX SEND (1/4" TS): For sending signals to external effects processors.
• PHONES (1/4" TRS): Connect your headphones for personal monitoring.
• REC/STREAM OUT (RCA): For sending the main mix to a recording device or streaming interface.

4. Operating Instructions

This section details the functions of the various controls on your XENYX 1003B mixer.

4.1 Channel Controls (Channels 1-5/6/7/8)

• GAIN: Adjusts the input sensitivity for the microphone or line input. Use this to set the optimal signal level without clipping.
• EQ (HIGH, MID, LOW): Three-band equalizer for shaping the tone of each channel.
  • HIGH: Adjusts frequencies around 12 kHz.
  • MID: Adjusts frequencies around 2.5 kHz.
  • LOW: Adjusts frequencies around 80 Hz.
• PAN (Mono Channels) / BAL (Stereo Channels): Controls the stereo position of the signal. PAN for mono channels (1-2), BAL for stereo channels (3/4, 5/6, 7/8).
• MON: Sends a portion of the channel signal to the MON output for stage monitoring.
• FX: Sends a portion of the channel signal to the FX SEND output for external effects processing.
• LEVEL FADER: Adjusts the overall volume level of the channel in the main mix.
• CLIP LED: Illuminates when the input signal is too high, indicating potential clipping. Reduce the GAIN if this LED lights up frequently.

4.2 Main Section Controls

• PHANTOM POWER (+48V): Activates phantom power for condenser microphones connected to the XLR inputs. Ensure microphones are compatible before activating.
• MAIN FADER: Controls the overall output level of the main stereo mix.
• PHONES LEVEL: Adjusts the volume of the headphone output.
• MON SEND: Master level control for the MON output.
• FX SEND: Master level control for the FX SEND output.
• LEVEL METER: Displays the output level of the main mix. Aim for levels that are strong but do not consistently hit the CLIP indicator.

4.3 Basic Operation Workflow

1. Ensure all connections are secure and the mixer is powered off.
2. Connect your microphones and line-level instruments to the appropriate inputs.
3. Connect your main speakers/amplifier to the MAIN OUTs.
4. Turn on the mixer, then turn on your amplifier/powered speakers.
5. Set all channel LEVEL faders to their lowest position. Set the MAIN FADER to 0 dB.
6. For each active channel, slowly increase the GAIN control while speaking into the microphone or playing the instrument. Observe the CLIP LED and the main LEVEL METER. Adjust GAIN so that the signal is strong but the CLIP LED only flashes occasionally on peaks.
7. Adjust the channel LEVEL faders to balance the mix.
8. Use the EQ controls to fine-tune the tone of each channel.
9. Adjust MON and FX sends as needed for monitoring and effects.
10. Adjust the MAIN FADER for the overall output volume.

5.1 Cleaning

Clean the mixer regularly with a soft, dry, lint-free cloth. Do not use liquid cleaners, abrasive cleaners, or sprays, as these can damage the surface or internal components. Ensure the unit is unplugged before cleaning.

5.2 Storage

When not in use for extended periods, store the mixer in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. It is recommended to keep the original packaging for protection during storage or transport.
