The Yale Assure 2 Smart Lock YRD420 consists of an exterior touchscreen keypad, an interior thumbturn module, a deadbolt mechanism, and a strike plate. The integrated Wi-Fi module allows for remote access and smart home connectivity.

3. Setup

3.1. Installation Requirements

  • Door Thickness: 1-3/8" to 2-1/4" (35mm - 57mm)
  • Backset: 2-3/8" or 2-3/4" (60mm or 70mm)
  • Face Bore Hole: 2-1/8" (54mm)
  • Edge Bore Hole: 1" (25mm)

3.2. Physical Installation

  1. Prepare Door: Ensure your door meets the installation requirements. If replacing an existing deadbolt, remove it.
  2. Install Deadbolt: Insert the deadbolt into the edge bore hole, ensuring the 'UP' arrow is facing upwards. Secure with screws.
  3. Install Exterior Keypad: Route the cable from the keypad through the door and align the keypad with the deadbolt.
  4. Install Interior Mounting Plate: Secure the interior mounting plate to the exterior keypad using the provided screws.
  5. Connect Cable: Connect the cable from the exterior keypad to the interior module.
  6. Install Interior Module: Place the interior module onto the mounting plate, ensuring the thumbturn spindle engages with the deadbolt mechanism. Secure with screws.
  7. Install Batteries: Insert four (4) AA alkaline batteries into the interior module.

3.3. Initial Programming

  1. Create Master Entry Code: After battery installation, the lock will prompt you to create a Master Entry Code. This code must be 4-8 digits long and is used to access programming features.
  2. Test Lock: Manually operate the deadbolt with the thumbturn and test the Master Entry Code to ensure proper function.

4. Operating Instructions

4.1. Locking and Unlocking

  • To Lock (Exterior): Press any key on the keypad for 3 seconds, or press the Yale button.
  • To Unlock (Exterior): Enter your valid 4-8 digit entry code followed by the checkmark symbol.
  • To Lock/Unlock (Interior): Rotate the thumbturn.
  • Via Yale Access App: Use the Yale Access app on your smartphone to lock or unlock remotely.

4.2. Adding/Deleting User Codes

  1. Enter Master Entry Code: Press the Yale button, then enter your Master Entry Code, followed by the gear symbol.
  2. Follow Voice Prompts: The lock will guide you through options to add or delete user codes. User codes must be 4-8 digits.
  3. Confirm: Test new codes to ensure they function correctly.

4.3. Wi-Fi Connectivity and Smart Features

The integrated Wi-Fi allows for direct connection to your home network without an additional bridge. Download the Yale Access app to set up and manage your lock remotely.

  • Remote Access: Lock and unlock your door from anywhere using the Yale Access app.
  • Guest Access: Create and manage unique entry codes for guests and monitor their usage.
  • Activity Feed: View a history of lock and unlock events.
  • Voice Control: Integrate with Amazon Alexa or Siri for hands-free control. Follow the instructions within the Yale Access app to link your smart assistant.

5. Maintenance

5.1. Battery Replacement

The Yale Assure 2 Smart Lock YRD420 operates on four (4) AA alkaline batteries. The lock will provide low battery warnings through audible alerts and visual indicators on the keypad. It is recommended to replace all four batteries simultaneously.

  1. Remove the battery cover from the interior module.
  2. Remove the old batteries.
  3. Insert four new AA alkaline batteries, ensuring correct polarity.
  4. Replace the battery cover.

Note: Some users have reported that the lock may require a manual reconnection to Wi-Fi after a battery change. If remote access is lost, check the Yale Access app and follow any prompts to re-establish the Wi-Fi connection.

5.2. Cleaning

To clean the touchscreen keypad, use a soft, damp cloth. Avoid abrasive cleaners, solvents, or harsh chemicals, as these can damage the finish and electronic components.

  • Lock Not Responding: Check battery levels. Replace batteries if low. Ensure the deadbolt mechanism moves freely.
  • Keypad Not Lighting Up: Verify batteries are correctly installed and charged.
  • Wi-Fi Connectivity Issues: Ensure your home Wi-Fi network is active and within range. Restart your home router if necessary. If issues persist after battery replacement, follow the reconnection steps in the Yale Access app.
