Door Checker Part 1 & 2
The Door Checker is a tool to measure your door's compatibility. It includes sections for measuring clearance, door thickness, backset, face bore, and edge bore diameter. Follow the printed scales and instructions to determine if your door is compatible and which screws to use. For door thickness, use teal screws for 1-3/8" doors, black screws for 1-3/8" - 1-3/4" doors, and silver screws for 1-3/4" - 2-1/4" doors. For backset, use the 2-3/8" setting out of the box or adjust for 2-3/4". For face bore, ensure it matches 1-1/2" or 2-1/8". For edge bore, ensure it is 1" diameter with a 1" strike pocket depth.
Marking Template
Use the Marking Template (pages 7-8) to accurately mark drilling locations on your door and frame based on your measurements. Choose the template side corresponding to your door's face bore diameter (2-1/8" or 1-1/2"). Align the template with your door's centerlines and mark for door thickness, backset, and edge bore. For the frame, mark the strike plate location and the strike pocket depth.

Step 1a: Remove Existing Deadbolt
If your door has an existing deadbolt, use the provided diagram to remove it. Keep the old deadbolt until the new lock is successfully installed.
Step 1b: Check Door Measurements
Tear off the Door Checker (pages 5-6) and measure your door and frame. If existing holes are not compatible, proceed to Step 1c. Do not drill holes until compatibility is confirmed.
Step 1c: Make or Adjust Holes
- Tear off the Marking Template (pages 7-8) and select the appropriate face bore diameter (2-1/8" or 1-1/2").
- Tape the Marking Template onto the door.
- Check door thickness and match it to the template's solid (1-3/4") or dashed (1-3/8") outlines.
- Choose your backset (2-3/4" solid or 2-3/8" dashed outlines).
- Drill holes in your door as marked.
- On the door frame, align the strike plate with the edge bore, trace it, and chisel to the correct depth for a flush fit. Drill the 1" diameter strike pocket with a minimum depth of 1".
Step 2: Install Deadbolt Latch
Ensure the deadbolt latch is correctly set for your backset (2-3/8" or 2-3/4"). Align the strike plate with the latch. The UP arrow on the deadbolt should face upwards. The latch must be in an unlocked position; use a flathead screwdriver to retract it if extended.
Step 3: Install Exterior Keypad
Refer to the Door Checker measurements (G and H) for the face bore hole. If the hole is less than 2-1/8", remove the adapter from the lock body. Ensure the deadbolt latch is unlocked. Slide the tailpiece through the deadbolt latch slot. Guide the wire cable under the deadbolt. Slide the exterior keypad into place on the door.
Step 4: Install Mounting Plate
Select screws based on door thickness (B, C, or D from Door Checker). Route the wire cable into the mounting plate slot. Guide the mounting plate posts into the exterior keypad holes. Slide the tailpiece through the mounting plate slot. Secure the mounting plate with screws, ensuring it and the keypad are straight. Ensure the wire cable is not pinched.
Step 5: Attach Wire Cable to Interior Lock
Remove the battery cover from the interior lock. Connect the wire cable to the designated slot on the interior lock, ensuring the side with ridges and the marked line faces outward. Push the cable in until it clicks.
Step 6: Install Interior Lock
Ensure the tailpiece slot is horizontal, adjusting with the thumbturn if needed. Slide the tailpiece through the interior lock's back slot. Press the interior lock against the mounting plate, aligning it until it clicks into place. Tighten the pre-installed screw. The lock should be flush to the door when fully tightened.
Step 7: Test Thumbturn and Key
Verify that the deadbolt latch is centered and the tailpiece is correctly inserted through the deadbolt slot and into the thumbturn slot. Test the key (from outside) and thumbturn (from inside) to ensure they lock and unlock the deadbolt smoothly.
Step 8: Install Yale Smart Module (Optional)
If your lock model includes a Smart Module, insert it into the designated slot at the top of the lock body. Check compatibility if the module was purchased separately (e.g., Z-Wave 500 series or Wi-Fi Module). Batteries should not be installed during module installation or removal.
Step 9a: Install DoorSense (Optional)
DoorSense is a magnetic sensor that tracks door open/closed status. It can be installed via surface mount or flush mount.
Step 9b: DoorSense Surface Mount
Remove adhesive backing from the DoorSense sensor. Attach it to the door frame, ensuring alignment with device edges and screw holes. For optimal performance, mount within 1-1/2" from the door frame edge. Center align with the Yale logo on the battery cover and adhere. Tighten screws and attach the cover. Calibration with the app is recommended after installation.
Step 9c: DoorSense Flush Mount
Remove the DoorSense cover and push out the magnet. Expose the magnet cap adhesive. Interlock the magnet onto the cap. Determine mounting location: 2" from the strike plate center to the DoorSense center, aligning with the lock's battery cover logo. Mark a 5/8" diameter hole horizontally centered on the door frame. Drill a 1/2" deep hole and insert the DoorSense. Use wood and a hammer/mallet if snug, or tape if loose.
Step 10: Install Batteries and Set Up with App
Ensure you have the Yale Access App downloaded and an account created. Before installing batteries, unlock the deadbolt latch. Place the ribbon behind the batteries for easy removal. Install 4 batteries. The keypad will light up, indicating pairing mode. Open the Yale Access App, tap "Set Up a Device", and follow the in-app instructions. Locate and scan the setup QR code on the lock's side if prompted.
Step 11: Set Up HomeKit (Optional, iOS Only)
To enable HomeKit, ensure your lock is set up with the Yale Access app. In the app's lock settings, select "HomeKit" to begin setup. You will need the 8-digit HomeKit accessory code found on the lock's side under the battery cover. Follow the app instructions. A HomePod, HomePod Mini, or Apple TV set up as a home hub is required for remote HomeKit access.
Step 12: Set Up Fingerprints and Entry Codes
Register and manage fingerprints or entry codes via the "Guest List" tab in the Yale Access App. A Bluetooth connection is required for fingerprints, and Bluetooth or Wi-Fi for entry codes. To create credentials for new users, tap "Invite" and choose access type. For existing users, tap "Existing Users" to register new fingerprints or create/manage entry codes.
