2. Safety Information
Before installing or using the LENZ EV Charger, please observe the following safety precautions to prevent electric shock, fire, or serious injury:
- Qualified Electrician: Installation of the NEMA 14-50 outlet must be performed by a qualified electrician in accordance with all local and national electrical codes.
- Dedicated Circuit: Ensure the NEMA 14-50 outlet is on a dedicated circuit with appropriate overcurrent protection (e.g., a 50A breaker for a 40A charger).
- Heavy-Duty Outlet: Use only heavy-duty, industrial-grade NEMA 14-50 outlets designed for frequent plugging and unplugging, and continuous high current draw. Standard household outlets are not suitable for EV charging and can pose a fire hazard due to overheating.
- Proper Torque: Ensure all terminal screws in the outlet are torqued to the manufacturer's specifications (typically 75 inch-pounds for heavy-duty outlets) to prevent loose connections and overheating.
- No Extension Cords: Never use extension cords or adapters with the EV charger.
- Inspect for Damage: Do not use the charger if the EVSE unit, charging cable, or connector is damaged. Contact customer support immediately.
- Weather Protection: While the unit is NEMA 4X / IP67 weatherproof, ensure the NEMA 14-50 outlet is also rated for outdoor use if installed outdoors, or protected from direct weather exposure.

4. Operating Instructions
The LENZ EV Charger is designed for simple plug-and-charge operation.
4.1 Charging Your EV
- Ensure the NEMA 14-50 plug of the charger is securely inserted into a properly installed heavy-duty NEMA 14-50 outlet.
- Take the J1772 connector from its holster.
- Open your electric vehicle's charging port.
- Firmly insert the J1772 connector into your vehicle's charging port. You should hear a click, indicating it is securely latched.
- The charger will automatically begin communicating with your vehicle and initiate charging. The LED indicator on the charger unit will illuminate to show charging status.
- To stop charging, simply press the release button on the J1772 connector and pull it out from your vehicle's charging port. Return the connector to its holster.
4.2 Tesla Vehicle Compatibility
For Tesla vehicles, a J1772 to Tesla adapter is required. This adapter typically comes with your Tesla vehicle or can be purchased separately from LENZ or other retailers. Connect the J1772 connector from the LENZ charger to the adapter, then plug the adapter into your Tesla's charging port.

5. Maintenance
The LENZ EV Charger requires minimal maintenance. Follow these guidelines to ensure optimal performance and longevity:
- Regular Cleaning: Periodically wipe down the charger unit and cable with a damp cloth to remove dust and dirt. Do not use harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners.
- Cable Inspection: Regularly inspect the charging cable and connector for any signs of wear, cuts, fraying, or damage. If any damage is found, discontinue use immediately and contact customer support.
- Proper Storage: Always return the J1772 connector to its holster when not in use to protect it from damage and environmental elements.
- Environmental Protection: Although weatherproof, avoid prolonged exposure to extreme conditions or direct water spray if possible, especially for the NEMA 14-50 plug connection.

6. Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues with your LENZ EV Charger, refer to the following common problems and solutions:
- Charger Not Activating:
- Ensure the NEMA 14-50 plug is fully inserted into the outlet.
- Check your home's circuit breaker to ensure it hasn't tripped.
- Verify the J1772 connector is securely latched into the vehicle's charging port.
- For Tesla vehicles, confirm the J1772 to Tesla adapter is correctly attached and functioning.
- Slow Charging or Reduced Charge Rate:
- This can occur if the NEMA 14-50 outlet or its wiring is overheating. Immediately discontinue charging and have a qualified electrician inspect the outlet and wiring. As highlighted in Video 1, using a heavy-duty, properly installed outlet is crucial for maintaining optimal charge rates and preventing safety hazards.
- Ensure your vehicle's charging settings are not limiting the charge rate.
- Overheating (Outlet or Adapter):
- If the NEMA 14-50 plug, outlet, or J1772 adapter feels hot to the touch, immediately unplug the charger. This indicates a potential safety hazard.
- Consult a qualified electrician to inspect the outlet and wiring. Replace any non-heavy-duty outlets with appropriate EV-rated heavy-duty outlets.
- Ensure the adapter (if used) is rated for the current being drawn and is in good condition.
- No Power Indicator:
- Check the circuit breaker.
- Ensure the NEMA 14-50 plug is fully seated.
If issues persist after following these steps, please contact LENZ customer support.
