Citizen Men's Promaster Dive Automatic 3-Hand Stainless Steel Watch

Instruction Manual

Model: NY0120-52X

Product Overview

The Citizen Promaster Dive Automatic 200M watch is a robust timepiece designed for professional and recreational diving. It features a 41mm stainless steel case and bracelet, with a distinctive yellow dial. This watch is powered by an automatic movement, meaning it is self-winding and operates from the natural motion of the wearer's wrist, eliminating the need for a battery.

Key Features:

  • Automatic Movement: Self-winding, powered by wrist motion, with Day/Date display, 3 hands, and luminous hands/markers.
  • Durable Construction: Silver-tone stainless steel case and bracelet with a safety fold-over clasp and push buttons.
  • Distinctive Dial: Orange/Yellow gradient dial with a dual spherical mineral crystal for enhanced visibility.
  • Water Resistance: Certified for 200 meters (660 feet), suitable for professional marine activity and serious surface water sports.
  • Luminous Elements: Hands and markers are treated with luminous material for visibility in low-light conditions.

Setup and Initial Operation

1. Initial Winding:

As an automatic watch, the Promaster Dive is powered by the motion of your wrist. If the watch has stopped or its power reserve is low, it may require initial manual winding. To do this, unscrew the crown (if it's a screw-down crown) and rotate it clockwise approximately 30-40 times. This will build up sufficient power reserve to start the watch and allow it to continue running with regular wear.

2. Setting Time and Date:

  1. Unscrew the Crown: If your watch has a screw-down crown, gently unscrew it by turning it counter-clockwise until it springs out to the first position.
  2. Pull to Position 2 (Date Setting): Pull the crown out to the first click position. Rotate the crown clockwise or counter-clockwise to set the desired date. Avoid setting the date between 9:00 PM and 3:00 AM, as this can interfere with the automatic date change mechanism.
  3. Pull to Position 3 (Time Setting): Pull the crown out to the second click position. The second hand will stop. Rotate the crown to set the hour and minute hands. To ensure accurate time, set the time a few minutes ahead and then push the crown back in when a time signal (e.g., from a radio or phone) reaches the exact time.
  4. Push and Screw Down the Crown: Once the time and date are set, push the crown back into the normal position. For screw-down crowns, gently push and turn clockwise to screw it back into the case. This ensures water resistance.

Operating the Watch

Automatic Movement:

The Promaster Dive Automatic watch is equipped with a mechanical movement that winds itself through the natural motion of your arm. When worn regularly (typically 8-10 hours a day), the watch will maintain its power reserve. If the watch is not worn for an extended period, it may stop. Simply re-wind it manually as described in the "Setup" section or wear it for a few hours to build up the power reserve.

Using the Unidirectional Rotating Bezel:

The Promaster Dive watch features a unidirectional rotating bezel, which is a crucial tool for divers to measure elapsed time underwater. The bezel rotates only counter-clockwise to prevent accidental increases in dive time, thus enhancing safety.

  1. Align the Bezel: Before a dive, align the triangle marker on the bezel with the minute hand of the watch.
  2. Measure Elapsed Time: As time passes, the minute hand will move, indicating the elapsed time against the bezel's scale. For example, if the minute hand points to '10' on the bezel, 10 minutes have passed since the dive began.

Water Resistance Guidelines

The Citizen Promaster Dive Automatic watch is rated for 200 meters (20 BAR) of water resistance. This rating indicates suitability for professional marine activity and serious surface water sports, but not for saturation diving.

Important Precautions:

  • Always ensure the crown is fully screwed down (if applicable) before exposing the watch to water.
  • Do not operate the crown or push buttons while the watch is wet or submerged.
  • Avoid exposing the watch to extreme temperature changes (e.g., hot showers followed by cold water immersion), as this can compromise seals.
  • Rinse the watch with fresh water after exposure to saltwater to prevent corrosion.
  • Regularly check the water resistance seals by a qualified watchmaker, especially before diving season.

Maintenance and Care

Cleaning:

Wipe the watch case and bracelet regularly with a soft, dry cloth to remove dirt and moisture. For stubborn dirt, especially on the bracelet, use a soft brush with mild soap and water, then rinse thoroughly with fresh water and dry completely.

Storage:

When not wearing the watch, store it in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight, extreme temperatures, and strong magnetic fields. For prolonged storage, ensure the watch has sufficient power reserve or manually wind it periodically to keep the movement lubricated.

Service:

Automatic watches, like any precision mechanical instrument, benefit from periodic servicing to ensure optimal performance and longevity. It is recommended to have your watch inspected and serviced by an authorized Citizen service center every 3-5 years.

Troubleshooting

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
Watch has stopped or runs intermittently.Insufficient power reserve.Manually wind the watch by rotating the crown clockwise (after unscrewing if applicable) about 30-40 times, or wear it consistently for several hours.
Date changes at noon instead of midnight.AM/PM setting is incorrect.Advance the time by 12 hours.
Condensation under the crystal.Temperature change or compromised water resistance.Immediately take the watch to an authorized service center for inspection. Do not attempt to dry it yourself.
Crown does not screw down properly.Cross-threaded or debris in threads.Ensure the crown is aligned correctly. If resistance is felt, do not force it. Clean threads gently or seek professional assistance.
