1. Introduction

Thank you for purchasing the Sur La Table Induction Rice Cooker, Model SLT-5801. This appliance is designed to provide efficient and versatile cooking for various rice types and other dishes. Please read this manual thoroughly before operation to ensure safe and optimal performance.

This rice cooker features induction heating technology, an LED touchscreen display, and 11 preset cooking functions. It includes a nonstick aluminum inner cooking pot and a steam tray.

2. Important Safeguards

When using electrical appliances, basic safety precautions should always be followed, including the following:

  • Read all instructions before use.
  • Do not touch hot surfaces. Use handles or knobs.
  • To protect against electrical shock, do not immerse cord, plugs, or the appliance in water or other liquid.
  • Close supervision is necessary when any appliance is used by or near children.
  • Unplug from outlet when not in use and before cleaning. Allow to cool before putting on or taking off parts.
  • Do not operate any appliance with a damaged cord or plug or after the appliance malfunctions or has been damaged in any manner.

The Sur La Table Induction Rice Cooker includes the following main components:

  • Main Unit: Houses the induction heating element and control panel.
  • Inner Cooking Pot: Nonstick aluminum pot for cooking rice and other ingredients.
  • Glass Lid: Transparent lid with a handle, allowing observation of the cooking process.
  • Steam Tray: For steaming vegetables or other foods.
  • Measuring Cup: For accurate measurement of rice and water.

4. Setup and First Use

4.1 Unpacking

  1. Carefully remove all components from the packaging.
  2. Remove any packaging materials, stickers, or labels.
  3. Retain the packaging for future storage or transport.

4.2 Initial Cleaning

  1. Wash the inner cooking pot, glass lid, steam tray, measuring cup, and rice paddle with warm, soapy water.
  2. Rinse thoroughly and dry all parts completely.
  3. Wipe the exterior of the main unit with a damp cloth. Do not immerse the main unit in water.

4.3 Placement

Place the rice cooker on a stable, flat, heat-resistant surface, away from direct sunlight or heat sources. Ensure adequate ventilation around the unit.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1 Control Panel Overview

The LED touchscreen display provides intuitive control over the rice cooker's functions. Key controls include:

  • Power Button: Turns the unit on/off.
  • Menu/Preset Buttons: Select from 11 cooking presets (e.g., White Rice, Brown Rice, Sushi Rice, Porridge, Soup, Steam, Slow Cook, etc.).
  • Start Button: Begins the selected cooking cycle.
  • Delay Timer: Sets a delayed start time for cooking.
  • Warm/Cancel: Keeps food warm after cooking or cancels the current operation.
  • Hour/Min: Adjusts time settings for delay timer or manual cooking.

5.2 Basic Rice Cooking

  1. Measure the desired amount of rice using the provided measuring cup. Rinse rice thoroughly under cold water until the water runs clear.
  2. Place the rinsed rice into the inner cooking pot.
  3. Add the appropriate amount of water. Refer to the rice-to-water ratio chart below.
  4. Place the inner cooking pot into the main unit and close the glass lid securely.
  5. Plug the power cord into a grounded electrical outlet.
  6. Press the Power button to turn on the unit.
  7. Select the desired rice type preset (e.g., "White Rice").
  8. Press the Start button to begin cooking. The display will show the cooking progress.
  9. Once cooking is complete, the unit will automatically switch to "Warm" mode. Allow rice to rest for 5-10 minutes before serving for best results.

5.4 Using the Steam Function

  1. Add 2-3 cups of water to the inner cooking pot.
  2. Place food to be steamed (e.g., vegetables, dumplings) into the steam tray.
  3. Carefully place the steam tray into the inner cooking pot.
  4. Close the glass lid.
  5. Select the "Steam" preset.
  6. Adjust the steaming time using the Hour/Min buttons if necessary.
  7. Press Start.

6. Care and Maintenance

6.1 Cleaning

Always unplug the rice cooker and allow it to cool completely before cleaning.

  • Inner Cooking Pot, Lid, Steam Tray, Accessories: Hand wash with warm, soapy water. Do not use abrasive cleaners or metal scouring pads, as this can damage the nonstick coating. Rinse thoroughly and dry completely.
  • Main Unit: Wipe the exterior with a soft, damp cloth. Do not immerse the main unit in water or any other liquid. Ensure no water enters the control panel or power cord opening.
  • Condensation Collector (if applicable): Some models may have a removable condensation collector. Empty and clean it after each use.

6.2 Storage

Ensure the appliance is clean and dry before storing. Store the rice cooker in a cool, dry place. Do not wrap the power cord tightly around the appliance.
