5. Key Features

  • Power Over Ethernet (PoE): The RLA-PS1 provides 8 PoE ports (10/100Mbps) and 2 Gigabit Ethernet uplink ports (10/100/1000Mbps). It complies with the IEEE802.3af/at standard, delivering up to 30W per PoE port with a total power budget of 120W for up to 8 PoE devices.
  • Intelligent Power Management: This feature ensures stable power supply. If the total allocated power exceeds the 120W budget, lower priority PoE ports will be powered off sequentially until the total power consumption is below the threshold. This protects the device from overload and prioritizes essential PoE devices.

Figure 6: Intelligent Power Management system preventing overload by prioritizing power distribution.

  • Auto Detection of Adaptive Devices: The PoE switch automatically detects whether a connected device is PoE-compatible and requires power. It will not supply power to non-PoE devices, preventing potential damage.
  • Plug and Play: The RLA-PS1 offers an easy setup, requiring only one Ethernet cable for PoE cameras.
  • Durable Metal Casing: The switch features a robust metal casing for enhanced durability and fanless quiet design.

6. Operating Instructions: Connection Options

6.1 Option 1: Connect Cameras to RLA-PS1 without NVR

This setup is ideal for direct camera access via a router.

  1. Power On: Power on the PoE Switch.
  2. Connect to Router: Connect one of the PoE Switch's uplink ports to your router.
  3. Connect Cameras: Connect your PoE cameras (e.g., Reolink PoE Cameras, Reolink Doorbell PoE) to the PoE ports on the switch.

6.2 Option 2: Connect Cameras and NVR with RLA-PS1

This option provides higher reliability and security, with cameras managed directly by the NVR.

Method 1: Connect RLA-PS1 to the NVR Directly

  1. Power On & Connect Uplink: Power on the PoE Switch, then connect its uplink port to an NVR RJ45 port.
  2. Connect Cameras: Connect your PoE cameras to the PoE ports on the switch.

Note: With this setup, cameras are managed directly by the NVR and cannot be added to the Reolink App/Client separately.

Figure 8: Direct connection of PoE switch to NVR for camera management.

Method 2: Connect RLA-PS1, Cameras, and NVR in the Same LAN

This setup allows cameras to share the same LAN as the NVR, supporting more features.

  1. Power On NVR & Connect to Switch: Power on the NVR and connect its LAN port to an uplink port on the PoE Switch.
  2. Connect Switch to Router: Connect another uplink port on the PoE Switch to your router.
  3. Connect Cameras: Connect your PoE cameras to the PoE ports on the switch. Wi-Fi cameras will need separate power.

Note: With this setup, cameras share the same LAN as the NVR. You can add them directly to the Reolink App/Client or to the NVR as LAN devices.

7. Maintenance

To ensure optimal performance and longevity of your REOLINK PoE Switch RLA-PS1, consider the following maintenance tips:

  • Keep Clean: Regularly clean the exterior of the switch with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid using liquid cleaners or aerosols.
  • Proper Ventilation: Ensure the switch is placed in a well-ventilated area. Do not block the ventilation holes, especially if wall-mounted. The fanless design relies on natural convection.
  • Cable Management: Keep network cables organized and free from kinks or excessive bends to prevent signal loss or damage.
  • Power Supply: Use only the original 120W power adapter provided with the switch.
  • Environmental Conditions: Operate the switch within its specified temperature range (0°C to 45°C) and humidity levels. Avoid exposure to extreme temperatures, direct sunlight, or moisture.

8. Troubleshooting

Here are some common questions and their solutions:

  • Q: Does this PoE system work with other camera brands or models?
A: The system is designed to work exclusively with Reolink PoE cameras to ensure full functionality and stable performance. Other brands or non-Reolink models are not officially supported.
  • Q: Do I need Internet to use the system?
A: Internet is only needed for remote access. Local recording will work even without an Internet connection.
  • Q: What should I do if a camera or the NVR is not working properly?
A: Check the cable connections, switch ports, and confirm power supply to all devices. If the issue persists, contact Reolink Support with your order information for troubleshooting or replacement assistance.
