3. Setup
3.1 Unpacking and Inspection
Carefully remove the engine from its packaging. Inspect for any shipping damage. Ensure all included accessories (spark plug socket, manual, flat key) are present.
3.2 Adding Engine Oil
The engine is shipped without oil. Before starting, fill the crankcase with the recommended oil.
- Place the engine on a level surface.
- Remove the oil filler cap/dipstick.
- Add approximately 1.16 quarts (1.1 liters) of SJ 10W-40 engine oil. Do not overfill.
- Check the oil level using the dipstick. The oil should be at the upper limit mark.
- Securely replace the oil filler cap/dipstick.
3.3 Adding Fuel
Use fresh, unleaded gasoline with an octane rating of 87 or higher.
- Ensure the engine is off and cool.
- Open the fuel tank cap.
- Carefully pour gasoline into the fuel tank, filling up to the indicated level (approximately 1.55 gallons). Do not overfill.
- Securely replace the fuel tank cap.
3.4 Connecting the Battery (for Electric Start)
Connect a suitable 12V battery to the engine's electric start system. Ensure correct polarity: positive (+) to positive, negative (-) to negative.
3.5 Shaft Connection
The engine features a 1-inch diameter, 2-3/4 inch long shaft with a 1/4 inch keyway, drilled and tapped for a 3/8 inch size 24 UNF bolt. Connect your equipment to the PTO shaft securely using appropriate coupling and fasteners.
4. Operating Instructions
4.1 Pre-Start Checklist
- Check engine oil level.
- Check fuel level.
- Ensure air filter is clean and properly installed.
- Verify all connections (e.g., battery, shaft) are secure.
- Ensure the engine is on a stable, level surface.
4.2 Starting the Engine (Electric Start)
- Turn the fuel valve to the ON position.
- Move the choke lever to the CHOKE position (if the engine is cold).
- Turn the engine switch to the ON position.
- Press and hold the electric start button until the engine starts. Do not crank for more than 5 seconds at a time. If the engine does not start, wait 10 seconds before trying again.
- Once the engine starts, slowly move the choke lever to the RUN position.
- Allow the engine to warm up for a few minutes before applying load.
4.3 Stopping the Engine
- Reduce engine speed to idle.
- Turn the engine switch to the OFF position.
- Turn the fuel valve to the OFF position.
5. Maintenance

5.1 Engine Oil Change
Change the engine oil after the first 20 hours of operation, then every 50-100 hours or annually, whichever comes first.
- Run the engine for a few minutes to warm the oil.
- Place a suitable container under the oil drain plug.
- Remove the oil filler cap/dipstick and the oil drain plug.
- Allow the oil to drain completely.
- Replace the oil drain plug and tighten it securely.
- Refill with recommended oil (SJ 10W-40) to the proper level.
- Replace the oil filler cap/dipstick.
5.2 Air Filter Maintenance
Inspect the air filter every 25 hours or more frequently in dusty conditions. Clean or replace as needed.
- Remove the air filter cover.
- Remove the foam and paper elements.
- Clean the foam element with warm, soapy water, rinse thoroughly, and allow to air dry. Lightly oil the foam element with engine oil and squeeze out excess.
- Tap the paper element gently to remove loose dirt. Replace if heavily soiled or damaged.
- Reinstall the elements and air filter cover.
5.3 Spark Plug Inspection and Replacement
Inspect the spark plug every 100 hours or annually. Replace if electrodes are worn or insulation is cracked.
- Remove the spark plug cap.
- Use the included spark plug socket to remove the spark plug.
- Inspect the spark plug for carbon buildup, wear, or damage.
- Clean carbon deposits with a wire brush.
- Check the electrode gap and adjust if necessary (refer to specifications for correct gap).
- Install a new or cleaned spark plug and tighten it to the specified torque.
- Reattach the spark plug cap.
5.4 Fuel System Care
- Use fresh gasoline. Stale fuel can cause starting problems and damage the fuel system.
- If storing the engine for an extended period, drain the fuel tank and carburetor, or use a fuel stabilizer.
