Product Overview

The Kasa Smart Wi-Fi Light Switch KS200 allows you to control your lights, ceiling fans, and other fixtures remotely. It integrates seamlessly with your home Wi-Fi network and supports voice control via Apple HomeKit, Siri, Amazon Alexa, and Google Assistant. This switch is designed for single-pole installations and requires a neutral wire.

Setup

1. Pre-installation Checklist

  • Neutral Wire Required: Ensure your electrical box has a neutral wire (usually white). If unsure, consult a qualified electrician.
  • 2.4GHz Wi-Fi Network: The switch requires a 2.4GHz Wi-Fi network for connectivity.
  • Power Off: Always turn off power at the circuit breaker before beginning installation.

2. Wiring Installation

  1. Turn off the circuit breaker controlling the light switch. Verify power is off using a voltage tester.
  2. Remove the old wall plate and disconnect wires from the old switch. Label each wire (Line/Load, Neutral, Ground) for easy identification.
  3. Connect the wires from your wall to the Kasa Smart Switch using the provided wire nuts.
    • Ground: Usually green or bare copper.
    • Neutral: Usually white.
    • Line/Load: Usually black. Note: No need to distinguish between Line and Load wires for this switch.

  4. Line up the Kasa Smart Switch with the mounting holes in the electrical box. Secure it with screws.
  5. Attach the new wall plate.
  6. Turn on the circuit breaker. The switch's LED should begin blinking.

3. App Setup

  1. Download the Kasa Smart app (iOS or Android) from your device's app store.
  2. Open the Kasa Smart app and follow the on-screen instructions to add your new KS200 switch. Ensure your phone is connected to a stable 2.4GHz Wi-Fi network.
  3. For Apple HomeKit integration, open the Home App and scan the QR code provided with the switch or on the quick start guide.

Operating Instructions

Manual Control

Press the rocker switch to manually turn connected lights or fixtures ON or OFF. The switch features a single rocker for simple operation.

Voice Control

Control your lights hands-free using voice commands with compatible smart assistants:

  • Apple Siri: "Hey Siri, turn on the kitchen light."
  • Amazon Alexa: "Alexa, turn off the living room lights."
  • Google Assistant: "Hey Google, dim the bedroom lights."

Remote Control & Scheduling

Use the Kasa Smart app to control your lights from anywhere, set schedules, timers, and enable Away Mode.

  • Control From Anywhere: Monitor and control your lights remotely via the Kasa app on your smartphone or tablet.
  • Scheduling: Automate your lights to turn on or off at specific times, or based on sunrise/sunset.

  • Away Mode: Randomly turn lights on and off to give the appearance that someone is home, deterring potential intruders.

Troubleshooting

Switch Not Responding

HomeKit Integration Issues

  • Network Requirements: For remote control via HomeKit, an Apple Home Hub (HomePod, Apple TV, or iPad) is required and must be connected to the same network.
  • Reset and Re-add: If the switch fails to add to HomeKit, perform a factory reset on the switch and try the setup process again.

Voice Control Not Working

  • Account Linking: Ensure your Kasa account is correctly linked to your Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant account.
  • Device Naming: Use clear and simple names for your devices in the Kasa app and your smart assistant app to avoid confusion.
