Introduction

This manual provides essential instructions for the safe and effective use of your Ricoh WG-7 Waterproof Digital Camera. The WG-7 is engineered for durability, featuring a rugged design that is waterproof, dustproof, freeze-proof down to -10 degrees Celsius, shock-resistant from drops up to 2.1 meters (6.9 feet), and crushproof up to 100 kilograms (220 pounds) of force. It is capable of continuous video recording for up to two hours at a depth of 20 meters (65 feet).

Setup

1. Battery Installation

The Ricoh WG-7 uses a CR2 Lithium battery (not included). Ensure the camera is powered off before opening the battery compartment.

  1. Locate the battery compartment cover on the side or bottom of the camera.
  2. Slide the lock mechanism and open the cover.
  3. Insert the CR2 Lithium battery according to the polarity indicators (+/-) inside the compartment.
  4. Close the cover securely until it clicks into place and engage the lock mechanism.

2. Memory Card Insertion

The camera requires an SD, SDHC, or SDXC memory card (not included) for storing photos and videos.

  1. With the camera powered off, open the battery/memory card compartment cover.
  2. Insert the memory card into the slot with the label facing the correct direction (usually towards the front of the camera) until it clicks.
  3. Close the compartment cover securely.

3. Initial Power On and Settings

  1. Press the power button to turn on the camera.
  2. Follow the on-screen prompts to set the language, date, and time.
  3. Ensure the date and time are accurate for proper file management.

Operating the Camera

Basic Photography

  • Power On/Off: Press the POWER button.
  • Shutter Button: Press halfway to focus, press fully to capture an image.
  • Zoom: Use the zoom lever (W/T) to adjust the 5x optical zoom (28-140mm equivalent).
  • Shooting Modes: Rotate the mode dial to select from various modes including Automatic, Landscape, Movie, Sports, and Underwater.
  • Flash: The built-in flash can be set to Automatic, On, or Off depending on lighting conditions.

Video Recording

The Ricoh WG-7 supports 4K video recording.

  1. Select the Movie mode on the mode dial.
  2. Press the dedicated movie recording button to start and stop recording.
  3. The camera can record continuously for up to two hours underwater at its maximum depth rating.

Underwater Use

The WG-7 is waterproof to 20 meters (65 feet). Before submerging the camera:

  • Ensure all compartment covers (battery/memory card, USB/HDMI) are securely closed and locked.
  • Check that there is no sand, dust, or debris on the rubber seals of the covers.
  • After use in saltwater, rinse the camera thoroughly with fresh water and dry it with a soft cloth.

Maintenance

Cleaning the Camera

  • Camera Body: Wipe with a soft, damp cloth. For stubborn dirt, use a mild detergent solution.
  • Lens: Use a lens brush or blower to remove dust, then gently wipe with a clean, dry microfiber lens cloth. Avoid touching the lens surface with fingers.
  • LCD Screen: Wipe gently with a soft, dry microfiber cloth.

Waterproof Seal Care

  • Regularly inspect the rubber seals on the battery/memory card and USB/HDMI compartments for any signs of damage, cracks, or foreign particles.
  • Clean the seals with a soft, lint-free cloth. Do not use sharp objects.
  • Apply a thin layer of silicone grease (available separately) to the seals periodically to maintain their elasticity and waterproof integrity.

Storage

When not in use, store the camera in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. Remove the battery if the camera will not be used for an extended period.

Troubleshooting

ProblemPossible Cause / Solution
Camera does not power on.
  • Battery is depleted or incorrectly inserted. Check battery level and orientation.
  • Battery compartment cover is not fully closed. Ensure it is securely latched.
Images are blurry.
  • Lens is dirty. Clean the lens carefully.
  • Camera shake. Hold the camera steady or use a tripod.
  • Subject is too close for focus. Maintain appropriate distance.
"Memory Card Error" message.
  • Memory card is full. Delete unnecessary files or use a new card.
  • Memory card is damaged or incorrectly inserted. Reinsert or try a different card.
  • Memory card is not formatted. Format the card using the camera's menu (this will erase all data).
Water inside the camera.
  • Compartment covers were not properly sealed before submersion.
  • Damage to waterproof seals. Immediately power off the camera, remove the battery, and contact Ricoh service.
