3. Initial Setup
3.1. Initial Charging (Eco-Drive)
Your Citizen Eco-Drive watch is powered by light. Before initial use, or if the watch has stopped, ensure it is sufficiently charged:
- Expose the watch dial to a bright light source (natural sunlight or strong artificial light) for several hours.
- A full charge can take approximately 5-6 hours in direct sunlight or 20-30 hours under fluorescent light.
- The watch will begin operating once it receives sufficient light.
3.2. Setting the Time
- Pull the crown out to the second click position. The small second hand (if present) will stop.
- Rotate the crown to move the hour and minute hands. Observe the 24-hour sub-dial to ensure the correct AM/PM is set.
- Once the correct time is set, push the crown back into the normal position.
3.3. Setting the Date
- Pull the crown out to the first click position.
- Rotate the crown to adjust the date.
- Important: Avoid setting the date between 9:00 PM and 1:00 AM, as this period is when the watch's internal mechanism prepares for the automatic date change, and manual adjustment can cause damage or misalignment.
- After setting the date, push the crown back into the normal position.
4. Operating the Watch Functions
4.1. Chronograph Function
The chronograph allows for precise timing of events:
- Start: Press the upper pusher to start the chronograph. The chronograph second hand will begin to move.
- Stop: Press the upper pusher again to stop the chronograph. The elapsed time will be indicated by the chronograph second hand and the chronograph minute sub-dial (at the 12 o'clock position).
- Reset: Press the lower pusher to reset all chronograph hands to their zero positions.
The chronograph measures up to 60 minutes. The sub-dial at the 12 o'clock position tracks the elapsed minutes.
4.2. 12/24 Hour Time Display
The sub-dial at the 9 o'clock position displays the current time in a 24-hour format, synchronized with the main hour hand. This provides a quick reference for distinguishing between AM and PM hours.
5. Care and Maintenance
5.1. Eco-Drive Charging
To maintain optimal performance and prevent the watch from stopping:
- Regularly expose the watch to light.
- Avoid storing the watch in prolonged darkness, which can deplete the power cell.
- A fully charged watch can operate for several months in complete darkness.
5.2. Water Resistance
Your watch is water resistant to 100 meters (10 ATM). This rating means it is suitable for swimming and snorkeling. It is not designed for scuba diving.
- Always ensure the crown is pushed in completely before exposing the watch to water.
- Do not operate the crown or pushers while the watch is wet or submerged.
5.3. Cleaning
To keep your watch in good condition:
- Wipe the watch case and bracelet with a soft, damp cloth.
- For the sapphire crystal, use a clean, lint-free cloth.
- Avoid using harsh chemicals, solvents, or abrasive materials, as these can damage the watch's finish or seals.
6. Troubleshooting
If you encounter any issues with your watch, refer to the following common problems and solutions:
- Watch Stops or Loses Time:
Cause: Insufficient power cell charge.
Solution: Expose the watch to bright light for an extended period. Refer to Section 3.1 for charging guidelines. - Date Changes at Noon Instead of Midnight:
Cause: The AM/PM setting was incorrect when the time was initially set.
Solution: Advance the hour hand by 12 hours. Refer to Section 3.2 for time setting instructions. - Chronograph Hands Do Not Reset to Zero:
Cause: Possible misalignment of chronograph hands.
Solution: If repeated attempts to reset do not align the hands, consult an authorized Citizen service center for adjustment. - Difficulty Setting Date:
Cause: The date setting mechanism can be precise.
Solution: Ensure you are following the instructions in Section 3.3 carefully. If issues persist, contact Citizen customer support for assistance.
