Note: The Symphony Double Pumping Kit (model #67099) is sold separately and is required for use. This kit includes tubes, valves, membranes, breast shields, and bottles.

Setup

Before first use, ensure all parts of the pumping kit that come into contact with breast milk are cleaned and sanitized according to the separate pumping kit instructions.

1. Place the Symphony Plus breast pump on a stable, flat surface.
2. Open the top lid of the pump unit.
3. Insert the membrane caps into the designated slots.
4. Connect the tubing from your Symphony Double Pumping Kit to the membrane caps.
5. Attach the breast shields, connectors, and bottles from your pumping kit to the other end of the tubing.
6. Close the top lid securely.
7. Plug the power cord into the back of the pump and then into a power outlet.

Operating Instructions

1. Power On: Press the power button (circular button with a line and circle icon) to turn on the pump. The display will show "Press Power" or "INITIATE Press".
2. Select Program:
   • Initiate Program: For mothers establishing milk supply, especially soon after birth. Press the "Initiate" button (icon with a baby head and milk drops). This program uses a mix of stimulation, expression, and pause phases to mimic natural infant sucking.
   • Maintain Program: For mothers maintaining an established milk supply. Press the "Maintain" button (icon with a milk bottle and drops). This program focuses on efficient milk expression.
3. Adjust Vacuum Level: Use the central rotary knob to adjust the vacuum strength to a comfortable level. Start with a lower setting and gradually increase it.
4. Single or Double Pumping: The Symphony Plus allows for both single and double pumping. Ensure the correct number of pumping kits are connected for your desired mode.
5. Pumping Duration: The pump may have pre-set durations for programs (e.g., 15 minutes for Initiate). Monitor your milk flow and comfort.
6. Power Off: Press the power button again to turn off the pump.

• Cleaning: The main pump unit should be wiped clean with a damp cloth. Do not immerse the pump unit in water.
• Pumping Kit: All parts of the pumping kit that come into contact with breast milk (e.g., breast shields, connectors, bottles, valves, membranes) must be cleaned and sanitized after each use. Refer to the instructions provided with your Symphony Double Pumping Kit for detailed cleaning and sanitizing procedures.
• Dishwasher Safety: The main pump unit is not dishwasher safe.
• Storage: Store the pump and accessories in a clean, dry place when not in use.

Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your Medela Symphony Plus breast pump, consider the following:

• Low Suction:
  • Check that all tubing connections are secure and free from kinks.
  • Ensure the membrane caps are correctly seated and not damaged.
  • Inspect valves and membranes for tears or wear; replace if necessary.
  • Verify that the breast shields are properly sealed against the breast.
  • Confirm the vacuum level is adjusted appropriately using the rotary knob.
• No Power:
  • Ensure the power cord is securely plugged into both the pump and a working electrical outlet.
