4. Setup and Installation

Before beginning installation, ensure the water supply to the toilet is turned off and the tank is empty. You may need basic plumbing tools such as a wrench and a towel.

4.1 Removing the Old Fill Valve

  1. Turn off the water supply valve located at the wall or floor behind the toilet.
  2. Flush the toilet to drain most of the water from the tank.
  3. Use a sponge or towel to remove any remaining water from the tank.
  4. Disconnect the water supply line from the bottom of the old fill valve. Have a bucket ready to catch any residual water.
  5. Unscrew the mounting nut from the underside of the toilet tank that secures the old fill valve.
  6. Remove the old fill valve from the tank.

4.2 Installing the NuFlush Fill Valve

  1. Insert the new NuFlush fill valve into the hole at the bottom of the toilet tank. Ensure the rubber washer is correctly seated on the valve shank inside the tank.
  2. From the underside of the tank, thread the attachment nut onto the fill valve shank. Hand-tighten first, then use a wrench to tighten an additional 1/4 to 1/2 turn. Do not overtighten.
  3. Connect the refill tube to the small port on the top of the fill valve and clip the other end to the overflow pipe in the tank. Ensure the tube is positioned above the water level in the tank.
  4. Reconnect the water supply line to the bottom of the new fill valve. Hand-tighten, then use a wrench for a final snug turn.

4.3 Adjusting Water Height

The NuFlush fill valve allows for adjustment of the water level in the toilet tank. To adjust, locate the adjustment clip or collar on the main shaft of the fill valve. Typically, you can twist or slide this mechanism to raise or lower the float cup, thereby setting the desired water level between 8 and 13 inches. Ensure the water level is below the overflow pipe.

5. Operating Instructions

Once installed and adjusted, turn the water supply back on slowly. The tank will begin to fill. The fill valve will automatically shut off when the water reaches the set level. Flush the toilet several times to ensure proper operation and check for leaks.

  • Water Level: Verify the water level in the tank is at the desired height and below the top of the overflow pipe.
  • Refill Tube: Ensure the refill tube is directing water into the overflow pipe to refill the toilet bowl after flushing.
  • Leak Check: Inspect all connections for any signs of water leakage.

6. Maintenance

Regular maintenance can extend the life of your fill valve and prevent common toilet issues.

  • Cleaning: Periodically inspect the fill valve for mineral deposits or debris, especially if you have hard water. Turn off the water supply, drain the tank, and gently clean any affected parts with a soft brush and mild cleaner.
  • Float Mechanism: Ensure the float cup moves freely without obstruction.
  • Refill Tube: Check that the refill tube remains securely attached and correctly positioned.
