Model: PR-4753-1721235

1. Important Safety Information

Please read all instructions carefully before assembly and use of this bunk bed. Keep this manual for future reference.

  • Top Bunk Age Restriction: The top bunk is not suitable for children under 6 years of age.
  • Weight Limit: Each bunk surface has a static weight limit of 400 lbs. Do not exceed this limit.
  • Mattress Requirements: Use only a twin-size mattress. The maximum mattress thickness for the top bunk should not exceed 8 inches to ensure proper guardrail height.

  • Ladder Use: Always use the ladder for entering and exiting the top bunk. Do not use chairs or other items.
  • No Horseplay: Prohibit horseplay on or under the bed.

  • Assembly: Assembly should be performed by at least two adults.
  • Hardware: Periodically check and tighten all connections and hardware.

Failure to follow these warnings could result in serious injury.

Note: Mattresses are not included with this product.

3. Assembly Instructions

Assembly is required for this bunk bed. It is recommended that two adults perform the assembly to ensure safety and ease of construction.

  1. Unpack and Identify: Carefully unpack all components and lay them out on a clean, soft surface (e.g., a rug or blanket) to prevent scratching. Compare all parts with the provided parts list.
  2. Assemble Bed Frames: Follow the detailed diagrams in your separate assembly guide to connect the headboards, footboards, and side rails for both the upper and lower twin beds using the provided hardware. Ensure all connections are snug but do not overtighten until the entire frame is assembled.
  3. Attach Ladder: Securely attach the built-in ladder to the designated side of the upper bunk frame using the specified hardware. Verify that the ladder is stable and firmly attached.
  4. Install Slats: Place the heavy-duty solid pine slats across the bed frames for both the upper and lower bunks. Ensure they are evenly spaced and secured according to the assembly guide. These slats are designed to support an 8-inch twin mattress without the need for a bunkie board.
  5. Final Tightening: Once the entire bunk bed structure is assembled, go back and securely tighten all bolts and screws. Do not overtighten to avoid stripping the wood.
  6. Placement: Position the assembled bunk bed against a wall to maximize stability and safety.

4. Operating Instructions

This Pemberly Row bunk bed offers versatile configuration options.

4.1. Using as a Bunk Bed

Once assembled, the unit functions as a traditional twin-over-twin bunk bed. Ensure all safety guidelines in Section 1 are followed, especially regarding top bunk usage and ladder access.

4.2. Detaching into Two Separate Twin Beds

A key feature of this design is its ability to convert into two independent twin beds. To detach:

  1. Remove Mattresses: Carefully remove both the top and bottom mattresses.
  2. Disassemble Connecting Hardware: Locate and remove the hardware that connects the upper bunk frame to the lower bunk frame. This typically involves bolts and nuts at the corner posts.
  3. Separate Frames: With the help of another adult, carefully lift the top bunk frame off the lower bunk frame.
  4. Reconfigure: The two frames can now be placed as separate twin beds. Ensure all remaining hardware is secure on each individual bed frame.

5. Maintenance

Proper care will extend the life and appearance of your Pemberly Row bunk bed.

  • Cleaning: Wipe surfaces with a soft, damp cloth. Avoid using harsh chemicals, abrasive cleaners, or polishes that may damage the black finish.
  • Hardware Check: Periodically (e.g., every 3-6 months) inspect all bolts, screws, and connections. Tighten any loose hardware to maintain structural integrity and prevent wobbling or squeaking.
  • Avoid Direct Sunlight: Prolonged exposure to direct sunlight can cause fading or damage to the wood finish.
  • Humidity Control: Maintain a stable humidity level in the room to prevent wood from expanding or contracting excessively, which can lead to cracks or warping.

6. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your bunk bed, consider the following common solutions:

  • Wobbling/Instability: Ensure all assembly hardware is fully tightened. Check that the bed is placed on a level surface.
  • Squeaking Noises: Squeaking often indicates loose hardware. Retighten all bolts and screws. If squeaking persists, apply a small amount of paraffin wax or silicone spray to the joints where wood meets wood or wood meets metal.
  • Ladder Feels Loose: Verify that the ladder attachment bolts are securely fastened.
  • Slats Shifting: Ensure slats are correctly positioned and, if applicable, secured with screws or clips as per the assembly guide.

If problems persist after troubleshooting, contact Pemberly Row customer support.
