Safety Information

Always prioritize safety when operating your griddle. Failure to follow these instructions could result in fire, explosion, or burn hazard, which could cause property damage, personal injury, or death.

  • Outdoor Use Only: This griddle is for outdoor use only. Do not operate indoors or in an enclosed area.
  • Ventilation: Ensure adequate ventilation. Do not obstruct the flow of combustion and ventilation air.
  • Clearance: Maintain minimum clearances from combustible materials: 24 inches from sides and back.
  • Propane Tank: Use only a 20 lb. propane cylinder (not included) with an OPD (Overfill Protection Device) valve. Always connect and disconnect the propane cylinder outdoors.
  • Leak Test: Perform a leak test on all gas connections before initial use and after any cylinder change.
  • Hot Surfaces: Griddle surfaces become extremely hot during use. Use heat-resistant gloves and avoid direct contact.
  • Children and Pets: Keep children and pets away from the griddle during operation and while it is cooling down.
  • Never Leave Unattended: Do not leave the griddle unattended while in use.

Setup and Assembly

Your Blackstone 22" Tabletop Griddle comes mostly pre-assembled. Follow these steps for initial setup.

  1. Unpacking: Carefully remove all components from the packaging. Inspect for any damage.
  2. Placement: Place the griddle on a stable, level, non-combustible surface. Ensure it is away from any flammable materials or structures.
  3. Attach Griddle Top: Place the griddle top onto the main body, ensuring it sits securely.
  4. Connect Propane Tank:
    • Ensure all griddle control knobs are in the "OFF" position.
    • Connect the regulator hose to the propane cylinder valve. Hand-tighten firmly.
    • Open the propane cylinder valve slowly.
    • Perform a leak test (see Safety Information).
  5. Initial Seasoning: Before first use, the griddle top must be seasoned. This process creates a natural non-stick surface and protects against rust.
    • Wash the griddle top with warm, soapy water to remove any manufacturing residues. Rinse thoroughly and dry completely.
    • Apply a thin, even layer of Blackstone Griddle Seasoning & Conditioner or high smoke point oil (e.g., flaxseed, grapeseed, or vegetable oil) to the entire cooking surface.
    • Turn both burners to HIGH. Allow the oil to burn off completely, turning black and smoking. This may take 15-20 minutes.
    • Once the smoke subsides, turn off the burners and let the griddle cool.
    • Repeat the oil application and burn-off process 3-5 times. The griddle surface will darken with each layer, indicating a good seasoning.

Operating Instructions

Ignition

  1. Ensure the propane tank valve is fully open.
  2. Push in and turn one control knob counter-clockwise to the HIGH position.
  3. You should hear a click as the Piezo igniter sparks. If the burner does not ignite within 5 seconds, turn the knob to "OFF", wait 5 minutes, and repeat the process.
  4. Once ignited, adjust the flame to your desired cooking temperature. Repeat for the second burner.

Cooking

The Blackstone 22" Tabletop Griddle features two independent cooking zones, allowing for versatile cooking at different temperatures simultaneously.

  • Preheating: Allow the griddle to preheat for 5-10 minutes before cooking to ensure even heat distribution.
  • Temperature Control: Use the control knobs to adjust the heat for each zone. High heat is ideal for searing, while low heat is suitable for simmering or keeping food warm.
  • Grease Management: The griddle features a rear grease management system. Excess grease and food debris will flow into the rear grease cup for easy disposal.

Maintenance and Care

Proper maintenance ensures the longevity and performance of your griddle.

Cleaning After Use

  1. Scrape: While the griddle is still warm, use a griddle scraper to push food debris and excess oil into the rear grease trap.
  2. Wipe: Wipe the griddle surface clean with paper towels. For stubborn residue, pour a small amount of water onto the hot griddle to deglaze, then scrape and wipe.
  3. Re-oil: Apply a very thin layer of cooking oil to the griddle surface after each cleaning to maintain the seasoning and prevent rust.
  4. Empty Grease Cup: Once cooled, empty and clean the rear grease cup.
  5. Exterior: Clean the exterior surfaces with a damp cloth and mild detergent. Dry thoroughly.

Storage

Store your griddle in a dry, protected area. If storing outdoors, use a Blackstone griddle cover to protect it from the elements.
