3. Setup and Initial Operation

3.1 Initial Charging

Your Eco-Drive watch is powered by light. Before initial use, or if the watch has stopped, expose it to bright light (natural sunlight or fluorescent lamp) for several hours to ensure a full charge. The second hand will move in two-second intervals if the power reserve is low, indicating a need for charging.

3.2 Setting the Time

  1. Unscrew the crown (if applicable) and pull it out to the second click position. The second hand will stop.
  2. Rotate the crown to set the hour and minute hands. To ensure correct AM/PM setting, advance the hands past 12 o'clock; if the date changes, it is midnight (AM).
  3. Push the crown back in to the normal position. If it was a screw-down crown, screw it back in securely to maintain water resistance.

3.3 Setting the Date

  1. Unscrew the crown (if applicable) and pull it out to the first click position.
  2. Rotate the crown to set the date. Avoid setting the date between 9:00 PM and 1:00 AM, as this may interfere with the automatic date change mechanism.
  3. Push the crown back in to the normal position. If it was a screw-down crown, screw it back in securely.

4. Operating Instructions

4.1 Using the Rotating Bezel

The unidirectional rotating bezel is a critical feature for dive timing. It rotates only counter-clockwise to prevent accidental increases in elapsed time. To use:

  1. Align the '0' mark on the bezel with the minute hand at the start of your dive or timed activity.
  2. The minute hand will then indicate the elapsed time against the bezel's scale.

4.2 Water Resistance

This watch is ISO certified for diving and features 200 meters (20 BAR) of water resistance. Ensure the crown is fully pushed in and, if applicable, screwed down tightly before any contact with water to maintain its water resistance rating. Avoid operating the crown or pushers while the watch is submerged.

5. Maintenance

5.1 Charging Your Eco-Drive Watch

To ensure continuous operation, expose your watch to light regularly. The power reserve can last for several months in total darkness when fully charged. However, consistent exposure to light is recommended to maintain optimal performance. Avoid prolonged storage in dark places.

5.2 Cleaning

After exposure to saltwater, chlorine, or dirt, rinse the watch thoroughly with fresh water and dry it with a soft cloth. This helps prevent corrosion and maintains the integrity of the watch and strap. For the rotating bezel, if it becomes stiff, rinsing it under running water while turning it can help dislodge debris and restore smooth operation.

5.3 Strap Care

The polyurethane strap is designed for durability and comfort. Clean it with mild soap and water. Avoid exposing the strap to harsh chemicals or extreme temperatures, which can degrade the material over time.

6. Troubleshooting

  • Watch Not Running or Second Hand Moving in Two-Second Intervals: This indicates insufficient charge. Expose the watch to bright light for an extended period (several hours to a full day) until the second hand resumes normal one-second intervals.
  • Time/Date Not Changing: Ensure the crown is fully pulled out to the correct position for adjustment. If the crown is a screw-down type, ensure it is unscrewed before pulling.
  • Stiff Rotating Bezel: Rinse the watch, especially the bezel area, under fresh running water while rotating the bezel. This can help remove salt, sand, or other debris that may cause stiffness.
  • Condensation Inside Crystal: If condensation appears and does not dissipate quickly, it may indicate a breach in water resistance. Contact Citizen customer support for inspection.
