1. Introduction
This user manual provides detailed instructions for the installation, operation, and maintenance of your Midland Alan 100 Plus B C442.12 Compact Mobile CB Radio. Please read this manual thoroughly before using the device to ensure proper function and safety. Keep this manual for future reference.
2. Safety Information
- Power Supply: Connect the radio only to a 12-volt DC power source. Incorrect voltage can damage the unit.
- Antenna: Always connect a properly tuned CB antenna before transmitting. Transmitting without an antenna or with a poorly tuned antenna can damage the radio's final amplifier.
- Installation: Ensure the radio is securely mounted in a location that does not obstruct the driver's view or interfere with vehicle controls.
- Maintenance: Do not attempt to open or service the radio yourself. Refer all servicing to qualified personnel.
- Hearing Protection: Prolonged exposure to high volume levels may cause hearing damage. Adjust the volume to a comfortable level.
3. Package Contents
Verify that all items are present in your package:
- Midland Alan 100 Plus B C442.12 CB Radio
- Microphone
- Mounting Bracket
- Fixing Screws and Hardware

4. Setup
4.1 Mounting the Radio
Select a suitable location in your vehicle for mounting the radio. Use the provided mounting bracket as a template to mark and drill pilot holes. Secure the bracket with the fixing screws. The radio can then be slid into the bracket and secured with the side knobs.
4.2 Connecting Power
Connect the red wire from the radio's power cable to the positive (+) terminal of your vehicle's 12V DC power source (e.g., battery or fuse box). Connect the black wire to the negative (-) terminal or a good chassis ground point. Ensure connections are secure and properly insulated.
4.3 Connecting the Antenna
Connect your CB antenna cable to the SO-239 connector on the rear panel of the radio. Ensure the antenna is properly installed and tuned for optimal performance and to prevent damage to the radio.

4.4 Connecting the Microphone
Plug the microphone connector into the 4-pin microphone jack on the front panel of the radio. Ensure it clicks securely into place.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1 Power On/Off and Volume Control
Turn the ON/OFF VOL knob clockwise to power on the radio. Continue turning clockwise to increase the listening volume. Turn counter-clockwise to decrease volume and power off the unit.
5.2 Channel Selection
Use the CHANNEL UP (▲) and CHANNEL DOWN (▼) buttons on the front panel to select your desired operating channel (1-40). The selected channel number will be displayed on the digital screen.
5.3 Squelch Control
The SQUELCH knob eliminates background noise when no signal is being received. Turn the SQUELCH knob clockwise until the background noise disappears. For optimal reception, adjust it to the point where the noise just cuts off. Turning it too far clockwise may block weaker signals.
5.4 AM/FM Mode Selection
The FM AM switch allows you to select between Frequency Modulation (FM) and Amplitude Modulation (AM) modes. Use the appropriate mode for the type of signal you wish to transmit or receive.
5.5 Emergency Channels (9/19)
The radio features a dedicated switch or button to quickly access emergency channels 9 (for motorist assistance) and 19 (for highway information). Pressing this button will instantly switch to the selected emergency channel.
5.6 Transmitting and Receiving
To receive, ensure the volume is adjusted and squelch is set. The RX indicator will illuminate when a signal is being received. To transmit, press and hold the Push-To-Talk (PTT) button on the microphone. The TX indicator will illuminate. Speak clearly into the microphone. Release the PTT button to return to receive mode.
6. Maintenance
- Cleaning: Use a soft, damp cloth to clean the exterior of the radio. Do not use harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners.
- Connections: Periodically check all connections (power, antenna, microphone) to ensure they are secure and free from corrosion.
- Antenna Tuning: Regularly check your antenna's SWR (Standing Wave Ratio) to ensure it is properly tuned. High SWR can reduce performance and damage the radio.
7. Troubleshooting
