This guide provides essential information for operating the Midland 28 CB Radio.

The Midland 28 is a multistandard CB transceiver supporting AM/FM modes. It features a 7-color, 5-inch adjustable LCD display with an S/meter, adjustable backlight, dual squelch modes (manual and DS), adjustable RF gain, emergency channels 9/19, and VOX functionality.

Controls Description
Main Unit:
- 1. ON/OFF/VOL Knob: Controls power and volume.
- 2. LCD Display: Shows channel, mode, and signal information.
- 3. VOX/EMG-CH Button: Short press cycles through channels 9/19/current channel. Long press activates VOX mode.
- 4. Squelch Knob: Rotate counter-clockwise to activate Digital Squelch (click sound) or clockwise for manual squelch adjustment.
- 5. Channel Selector Knob: Selects channels and scrolls through menus.
- 6. MENU/AM-FM Button: Short press switches between AM and FM modes. Long press enters the Menu.
- 7. Microphone Jack: Connects the microphone.
Display Indicators:
- 8. Keypad Lock: Indicates keypad lock status.
- 9. Selected Channel Number: Displays the currently selected channel.
- 10. S-METER: Indicates received signal strength and transmission power.
- 11. AM/FM Indicator: Shows the current transmission mode (AM or FM).
- 12. TX/RX Indicator: Shows transmission (TX) or reception (RX) status.
- 13. VOX Function Activated: Indicates when VOX is active.

Microphone:
- 21. PTT Button: Press to transmit.
- 22. UP Key: Moves to the next channel or menu item.
- 23. DOWN Key: Moves to the previous channel or menu item.
- 24. Keypad Lock/Noise Cancelling Button: Toggles keypad lock or activates Noise Cancelling.
Changing the Frequency Band
To change the operating frequency band:
- Switch off the radio.
- Press and hold the VOX-EMG/CH and MENU-AM/FM buttons simultaneously.
- Switch the radio back on. The display will show the currently used frequency band.
- Use the UP/DOWN buttons on the microphone or rotate the channel selector knob to choose the desired frequency band.
- Turn the radio off and then on again. The display will briefly show the selected band.
Note for UK Band: To switch between UK and I bands, press and hold the PTT and MENU buttons for 2 seconds.
