1. Introduction

This manual provides detailed instructions for the setup, operation, and maintenance of your MAD OWL 12 Channel DMX Dimming Controller, Model C-12. This compact DMX512 controller is designed for managing stage lighting fixtures with up to 12 DMX channels, offering straightforward control for various lighting applications.

4.1. Components and Controls

• Channel Faders (CH1-CH12): Six individual faders control DMX channels 1-6 or 7-12, depending on the selected page. Each fader adjusts the output level from 0 to 255.
• PAGE Button: Toggles between controlling DMX channels 1-6 (Page 1) and DMX channels 7-12 (Page 2). An indicator light shows the active page.
• MASTER Fader: Controls the overall output level for all active DMX channels.
• BLACKOUT Button: Instantly turns off all DMX output. Press again to restore previous levels.
• POWER Button: Turns the unit on or off.
• DMX Output (XLR 3-pin): Standard DMX512 output connector for connecting to lighting fixtures.
• DC Power Input: Connects to the included 12V DC power adapter.

5. Setup

1. Power Connection: Connect the included 12V DC power adapter to the DC Power Input port on the side of the controller. Plug the adapter into a suitable power outlet.
2. DMX Connection: Connect a standard XLR 3-pin DMX cable from the DMX Output port on the controller to the DMX input of your first lighting fixture. If you have multiple fixtures, daisy-chain them by connecting the DMX output of the first fixture to the DMX input of the next, and so on.
3. Power On: Press the POWER button on the controller. The power indicator light should illuminate.
4. Fixture Addressing: Ensure your DMX lighting fixtures are correctly addressed to respond to the desired DMX channels (1-12). Refer to your lighting fixture's manual for DMX addressing instructions.

5.1. Compatibility

This controller is compatible with DMX512 signal protocol and connects via standard XLR 3-pin DMX cables. It is suitable for lighting fixtures that utilize up to 12 DMX channels. Examples of compatible fixtures include Par lights, LED Strobe lights, Front lights, COB Blinder Stage Lights, RGBW Disco Ball Lights, and LED Stage Lights.

6. Operating Instructions

1. Selecting Channels (Page Button):
   • Press the PAGE button to switch between controlling channels 1-6 and channels 7-12.
   • When the indicator light next to "DMX" is green, you are controlling channels 1-6.
   • When the indicator light next to "PAGE" is blue, you are controlling channels 7-12.
2. Adjusting Channel Levels:
   • Use the six individual channel faders to adjust the intensity or parameter of the corresponding DMX channel (CH1-CH6 or CH7-CH12).
   • Moving a fader up increases the DMX value (0-255), and moving it down decreases the value.
3. Master Control:
   • The MASTER fader controls the overall output level of all active DMX channels.
   • Adjusting the Master fader down will dim all active lights proportionally.
4. Blackout Function:
   • Press the BLACKOUT button to instantly turn off all DMX output, causing all connected lights to go dark.
   • Press the BLACKOUT button again to restore the lights to their previous levels.

7. Maintenance

• Cleaning: Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the exterior of the controller. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
• Storage: Store the controller in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures when not in use.
• Cable Inspection: Regularly inspect DMX and power cables for any signs of damage. Replace damaged cables immediately.
