4. Setup and Installation
Follow these steps to set up your ATEN VE800A HDMI Extender system:
- Power Off Devices: Ensure all devices (HDMI source, display, and extender units) are powered off before beginning installation.
- Connect HDMI Source to Transmitter: Use an HDMI cable to connect your HDMI source (e.g., Blu-ray player, computer) to the HDMI input port on the VE800AT (Transmitter) unit.
- Connect Display to Receiver: Use an HDMI cable to connect your HDMI display (e.g., TV, projector) to the HDMI output port on the VE800AR (Receiver) unit.
- Connect Extender Units with Cat 5e Cable: Connect one end of a Cat 5e cable to the RJ-45 port on the VE800AT (Transmitter) unit and the other end to the RJ-45 port on the VE800AR (Receiver) unit. Ensure the cable is properly terminated and meets Cat 5e specifications for optimal performance.
- Connect Power Adapters: Plug the provided power adapters into the power jacks of both the VE800AT and VE800AR units, then plug them into a power outlet.
- Power On Devices: Power on your HDMI display first, then your HDMI source.
- Adjust Equalization (if needed): If the video quality is not optimal, use the 8-segment equalization adjustment switch on the VE800AR (Receiver) unit to fine-tune the signal. Refer to the "Operating" section for details.
For best results, use high-quality HDMI cables and a single, continuous Cat 5e cable run between the transmitter and receiver units.
5. Operating Instructions
Once the VE800A system is set up, operation is generally automatic. The units will establish a connection and transmit the HDMI signal.
5.1. Equalization Adjustment
The VE800AR (Receiver) unit features an 8-segment equalization adjustment switch. This switch compensates for signal degradation over long cable runs. If you experience flickering, poor image quality, or no signal, adjust this switch incrementally until the best picture quality is achieved. Start from the lowest setting and increase it as needed.
5.2. DDC Port Usage
The DDC port allows for the transmission of EDID (Extended Display Identification Data) from the display back to the source. If your setup requires specific EDID communication, connect a second Cat 5e cable between the DDC ports on both the transmitter and receiver units. This is typically not required for standard operation but can be useful in complex setups or with specific display requirements.
6. Maintenance
The ATEN VE800A HDMI Extender requires minimal maintenance. Follow these guidelines to ensure longevity and optimal performance:
- Cleaning: Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the exterior of the units. Do not use liquid or aerosol cleaners.
- Ventilation: Ensure the units are placed in a well-ventilated area to prevent overheating. Do not block ventilation openings.
- Environment: Keep the units away from excessive moisture, dust, and extreme temperatures.
- Cable Management: Ensure all cables are securely connected and not under strain. Avoid sharp bends in cables.
