3. Setup and Installation
3.1 Initial Setup
Before permanent installation, it is recommended to set up the console and outdoor sensor in close proximity to ensure they connect successfully.
- Power the Outdoor Sensor: Insert 3 AA Li-ion batteries (recommended, not included) into the outdoor sensor's battery compartment. Ensure correct polarity.
- Power the Main Console: Plug the provided power adapter into the console and a wall outlet. For backup, install 3 AAA alkaline or Li-ion batteries (not included) into the console's battery compartment.
- Sensor-Console Pairing: The console will automatically search for the outdoor sensor. Once connected, outdoor data will appear on the display. This may take a few minutes.
3.2 Outdoor Sensor Installation
Choose a location for the outdoor sensor that is open, free from obstructions, and allows for accurate wind, rain, and temperature measurements. The wireless transmission range is up to 100 meters (330 feet).

Figure 3: Example of outdoor sensor installation for optimal data collection.
- Mounting Location: Select a high, open area, away from buildings, trees, and other obstacles that could interfere with wind, rain, or sunlight.
- Assemble the Sensor: Attach the outdoor sensor array to the mounting pole using the provided hardware.
- Leveling: Use the integrated bubble level on the sensor to ensure it is perfectly horizontal for accurate rain and wind measurements.
- Secure Installation: Mount the assembly securely using the mounting base and hardware. Ensure it can withstand strong winds.

5. Maintenance
5.1 Cleaning the Outdoor Sensor
Regular cleaning ensures accurate readings, especially for the rain gauge and anemometer.
- Rain Gauge: Periodically check and clean the rain collector funnel for debris (leaves, insects) that could block the tipping bucket mechanism.
- Anemometer/Wind Vane: Ensure the wind cups and wind vane rotate freely. Remove any obstructions.
- Radiation Shield: Keep the thermo-hygrometer radiation shield clean to prevent inaccurate temperature and humidity readings.
5.2 Battery Replacement
- Outdoor Sensor: Replace the 3 AA batteries in the outdoor sensor when the low battery indicator appears on the console.
- Main Console: Replace the 3 AAA backup batteries in the console as needed.
6. Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| No outdoor data on console | Sensor not paired, low sensor battery, out of range, interference. | Check sensor batteries. Bring sensor closer to console to re-pair. Reduce interference sources. |
| Inaccurate temperature/humidity | Sensor exposed to direct sunlight/heat, dirty radiation shield. | Relocate sensor to a shaded area. Clean the radiation shield. |
| Incorrect wind speed/direction | Obstructions, sensor not level, debris in anemometer. | Ensure sensor is in an open area. Check bubble level. Clean wind cups. |
| Rainfall not registering | Debris in rain collector, tipping bucket stuck. | Clean the rain collector funnel and check the tipping bucket mechanism. |
| WiFi connection issues | Incorrect password, weak signal, router issues. | Verify WiFi password. Move console closer to router. Restart router. |
