Preface
Thank you for purchasing the GM-30 PRO. This dual-band, dual-display, dual-watch radio offers secure, instant, and reliable communications. Please read this manual carefully to maximize performance.
WARNING: European users require a valid Amateur Radio License for transmit mode. Failure to comply may be unlawful. Refer to the “EU” specification guide 2014/53/EU.
ATTENTION: When programming, use factory software data and rewrite with your frequency details. Ensure compliance with your FCC (or relevant country) license certification.
ATTENTION: Read the RF Energy Exposure and Product Safety Guide for safe usage and RF energy awareness.
Note on frequency bands: While PMR446 (Europe) or FRS, GMRS, MURS (USA) frequencies may be tempting, restrictions apply, potentially making this transceiver illegal for use on these bands.
Getting Started
1.1 Regulations and Safety Warnings
This equipment complies with FCC Part 15 rules for Class B digital devices, designed to provide reasonable protection against harmful interference. Verification of interference can be done by powering the device on and off. Users are encouraged to correct interference by reorienting the antenna, increasing separation, or connecting to a different circuit.
Modifications not expressly approved by the compliance party may void the user's authority to operate the equipment.
This device must accept any interference received, including interference that may cause undesired operation.
The radio complies with IEEE and ICNIRP exposure limits for general population/uncontrolled RF exposure environments. Maintain a minimum distance of 2.5 cm from the face during operation. Back Touch operations are restricted to approved accessories like the belt clip.
WARNING: MODIFICATION OF THIS DEVICE TO RECEIVE CELLULAR RADIOTELEPHONE SERVICE SIGNALS IS PROHIBITED UNDER FCC RULES AND FEDERAL LAW.
Compliance with RF Exposure Standards involves adherence to:
- United States FCC Regulations (47 CFR § 1.1307, 1.1310, 2.1093)
- ANSI/IEEE C95.1:2005 and Canada RSS102 Issue 5 March 2015
- IEEE C95.1:2005 Edition
Battery Information
2.1 Charging the Battery Pack
The Li-ion battery pack is shipped uncharged. Please charge it before use. Initial charging cycles may require 2-3 full charge/discharge cycles for optimal capacity.
2.3 Use Caution with the Li-ion Battery
- Do not short battery terminals or dispose of the battery in fire. Never attempt to remove the casing.
- Charge the battery within an ambient temperature of 5°C-40°C (40°F - 105°F).
- Turn off the radio before charging.
- Do not interrupt the charging cycle until the green light indicates completion.
- Avoid overcharging, as it can shorten battery life.
- Do not charge a damp battery.
NOTICE: Keep battery terminals clear of metal objects to prevent short circuits and heat generation. Use an insulated container for storage.
2.4 How to Charge
Plug the AC adapter into an outlet and connect the cable to the DC jack on the charger. The indicator light turns orange. Plug the battery or radio into the charger; the light turns red, indicating charging has begun. Charging takes approximately 2-5 hours. A green light signifies completion.
NOTICE: When charging a powered-on radio, the green light may not indicate full charge due to ongoing power consumption.
LED Indicator
Red LED | Green LED | Status |
---|---|---|
Flashing | Steady | Standby (charger empty) |
Steady | Off | Error (charger with radio) |
Off | Steady | Charging |
Off | Off | Charge complete. |
Radios should be turned OFF during charging.
2.5 Using the Type-C Charger
The Type-C port allows convenient charging. Ensure the radio is OFF. Connect the Type-C cable to the battery's charging port and the other end to a wall outlet. An empty battery will fully charge in approximately 6 hours. The battery meter on the LCD will indicate charging status.
2.6 Battery Maintenance
Charge the battery for at least 4-5 hours before first use. Use only manufacturer-approved batteries.
- Do not disassemble the battery pack.
- Avoid exposing batteries to fire or extreme heat.
- Dispose of batteries according to local recycling regulations.
2.7 Prolonging the Life of Your Battery
- Charge batteries in normal room temperatures.
- Turn off the radio when charging an attached battery for faster charging.
- Do not unplug the power or remove the battery/radio before charging is complete.
- Never charge a wet battery.
- Battery performance degrades over time. Consider purchasing a new battery if operating time significantly decreases.
- Cold temperatures reduce battery performance. Keep a spare battery warm in cold environments.
- Clean battery contacts with a dry cloth if dust interferes with charging.
For wet batteries, dry with a towel and place in a sealed bag with dry rice overnight to absorb moisture. This is effective for minor splashes only.
2.8 How to Store the Battery
- Store batteries at 80% charge in a low-temperature, dry environment, away from heat and direct sunlight.
- For long-term storage, cycle the battery every six months to prevent capacity degradation.
NOTICE: Do not short circuit battery terminals. Never attempt to remove the battery casing. Do not store batteries in unsafe environments or hot environments, as this may cause an explosion.
Preparation
3.1 Installing / Removing the Battery
Installing the Battery Pack: Position the battery pack on the back of the radio, engage it until fully seated, and secure with screws using a coin or similar object. Do not overtighten.
To Remove Battery Pack: Loosen the screws, lift the bottom of the battery pack slightly, and pull it out.
NOTE: The Li-ON battery pack can also be charged separately in the battery charger.
3.2 Installing / Removing the Antenna
Installing: Screw the antenna clockwise into the connector on top of the transceiver until secure.
Removing: Turn the antenna counter-clockwise.
3.3 Installing / Removing the Belt Clip
Installing: Align the belt clip with the holes on the back of the radio and screw it into place clockwise with the provided screws.
Removing: Unscrew the belt clip counter-clockwise.
3.4 Installing Additional Speaker/Microphone (Optional)
Pry open the rubber MIC-Headset jack cover and insert the Speaker/Microphone plug into the double jack.
