5. Software Version Requirements & Upgrade

Before installation, ensure your Mazda's MZD Connect system firmware meets the minimum requirements. An outdated system may prevent the kit from functioning correctly or stably.

5.1 Checking Your Firmware Version

To check your current OS version:

  1. Navigate to "Setting" on your car's display.
  2. Select "System".
  3. Choose "About".
  4. Select "Version Information".
  5. Locate "OS Version".

The system must be on version 70.00.021 or higher. For improved stability and to prevent frequent disconnections, it is recommended to update your OS version to 74.00.021 N AN/ F AN or above.

5.2 Upgrading Your Firmware

If your system requires an upgrade, please contact Dasbecan support for assistance and the necessary upgrade plug-in. During the firmware upgrade process, it is crucial to remove the SD card from your system. Reinsert the SD card only after the upgrade is complete to ensure navigation functions properly.

6. Setup and Installation

Installation of the retrofit kit involves replacing the existing USB hub unit and connecting new cables. It is recommended to consult detailed video tutorials available online for visual guidance, as the process involves disassembling parts of your car's interior.

6.1 General Installation Steps

  1. Preparation: Ensure your vehicle's ignition is off and disconnect the battery if required by specific vehicle instructions.
  2. Access the USB Hub: Carefully remove the necessary trim panels to gain access to the existing USB (AUX) hub unit.
  3. Remove Old Components: Disconnect and remove the old single gray USB cable and the old USB (AUX) hub unit.
  4. Install New Components: Install the new USB (AUX) hub unit and connect the new USB cable pair (Gray/Green and Gray/Blue) to the CMU (Connectivity Master Unit).
  5. Cable Management: To prevent noise and ensure a secure fit, wrap any disconnected vehicle wiring harness connectors with the provided sponge tape (100 x 30 mm). Use tie wraps to secure cables.
  6. Reassembly: Carefully reassemble all removed trim panels.

Important Notes:

  • The CarPlay connection uses USB1.
  • Siri must be enabled on your iPhone to connect to CarPlay.
  • If your car has two vehicle wiring harness connectors, apply the same procedure for both.

8. Troubleshooting and FAQ

This section addresses common issues and questions regarding the Dasbecan Retrofit Kit.

8.1 Common Issues

  • Frequent Disconnection: If your connected Mazda CarPlay frequently disconnects, it may be due to internal instability of the Mazda system. Update your OS version to 74.00.021 N AN/ F AN or higher for greater stability.
  • "No Apple CarPlay device found" or Black Screen: This often indicates an issue with the USB cable. Replace it with a new, high-quality data transmission cable. Some cables are for charging only and do not support data transfer.
  • Display Not Supporting Touch Screen: This is related to the car's firmware version. In some regions, touchscreen functionality may not be supported when using Android Auto, but it is generally supported with Apple CarPlay.
  • CarPlay Not Working After Firmware Update:
    1. Check if the connection lines are properly seated.
    2. Ensure Siri is turned on and Bluetooth is active on your iPhone.
    3. Try using a USB flash drive to verify if the USB port can read data.
    4. Confirm that you removed the SD card before upgrading the firmware and reinserted it afterward. Failure to do so can affect navigation functionality.

8.2 General Questions

  • Difference between wired and wireless versions: The wired version requires a physical data cable connection. Wireless versions (P3, P3A, P3.2) do not require wired connections for CarPlay/Android Auto, but data transmission is generally more stable with a wired connection.
  • Using another wireless CarPlay adapter: Yes, you can plug in a separate wireless CarPlay adapter or Android AI box into this unit.
  • Upgrading wireless module: If you purchased a wireless CarPlay version, the wireless module supports OTA upgrades. Contact technical support for assistance.
  • iPhone disconnects with Wireless CarPlay:
    1. Ensure your iPhone is only connected to the Bluetooth of the box. Delete any original car Bluetooth connections from your phone's Bluetooth list, as multiple connections can cause signal interference.
    2. Restart your car's original system, then delete the box's Bluetooth connection from your iPhone, restart your iPhone, and then reconnect to the box's Bluetooth.
