1. Introduction

The Apple Magic Keyboard with Touch ID and Numeric Keypad provides a comfortable and precise typing experience. It features an extended layout, including document navigation controls, full-size arrow keys, and an integrated Touch ID sensor for secure authentication. This wireless keyboard is rechargeable and designed for use with Mac computers equipped with Apple Silicon.

2. Setup

System Requirements

This keyboard requires a Mac computer with Apple Silicon running macOS 11.4 or later.

Pairing with Your Mac

  1. Ensure your Mac is turned on and within range of the keyboard.
  2. Connect the Magic Keyboard to your Mac using the included USB-C to Lightning Cable. This action automatically pairs the keyboard with your Mac.
  3. Once paired, you can disconnect the cable for wireless use. The keyboard will remain connected via Bluetooth.

Charging the Keyboard

The Magic Keyboard features an internal rechargeable battery. To charge, connect the USB-C end of the included cable to a USB-C port on your Mac and the Lightning end to the Lightning port on the back edge of the keyboard.

3. Operating the Keyboard

Touch ID

The Touch ID sensor is located on the top right key of the keyboard. It allows for secure authentication, such as unlocking your Mac, making purchases with Apple Pay, and quickly switching user accounts. To set up Touch ID, go to System Settings (or System Preferences) > Touch ID & Password on your Mac.

Numeric Keypad

The integrated numeric keypad provides quick entry for numbers and calculations, enhancing productivity for tasks involving data entry or spreadsheets.

Function Keys

The top row of keys includes function keys (F1-F12) that provide quick access to system features like screen brightness, Mission Control, media playback, and volume control. These keys can also be used as standard function keys by holding the Fn key.

Typing Experience

The Magic Keyboard is designed for a comfortable and precise typing experience, featuring a stable scissor mechanism beneath each key.

4. Maintenance

Cleaning

To clean your Magic Keyboard, first disconnect it from your Mac if it's charging. Use a soft, lint-free cloth slightly dampened with water. Avoid excessive moisture and do not spray cleaners directly onto the keyboard. Do not use aerosol sprays, solvents, or abrasives.

Battery Life

The internal battery is designed to power your keyboard for approximately one month or more between charges, depending on usage. You can check the battery level in the Bluetooth menu on your Mac.

5. Troubleshooting

Keyboard Not Connecting

  • Ensure the keyboard is charged. Connect it to your Mac with the USB-C to Lightning Cable.
  • Verify Bluetooth is enabled on your Mac. Go to System Settings (or System Preferences) > Bluetooth.
  • If the keyboard was previously paired, try removing it from the Bluetooth device list on your Mac and then re-pairing it by connecting the cable.
  • Restart your Mac.

Touch ID Not Working

  • Ensure your Mac is running macOS 11.4 or later and has Apple Silicon.
  • Check Touch ID settings in System Settings (or System Preferences) > Touch ID & Password.
  • Ensure your finger is clean and dry when using Touch ID.
  • Try restarting your Mac.

Keys Not Responding

  • Check the keyboard's battery level.
  • Ensure the keyboard is properly paired via Bluetooth.
  • Clean around the affected keys to remove any debris.
