  5. Once paired, you can name your SmartTag (e.g., "Keys", "Wallet", "Bag") and assign it to a location within the SmartThings app.

4. Operating Your SmartTag

4.1 Finding a Lost Item Nearby

If your item is within Bluetooth range of your smartphone:

  1. Open the SmartThings app.
  2. Navigate to the SmartThings Find section.
  3. Select the SmartTag you wish to locate.
  4. Tap the Ring button. Your SmartTag will emit a sound, helping you pinpoint its location.
  5. You can also use the signal strength indicator in the app to guide you closer to the SmartTag.

4.2 Using SmartThings Find Network

If your item is out of Bluetooth range, the SmartThings Find network can help:

  • The SmartTag periodically sends out a Bluetooth signal.
  • Other Samsung Galaxy devices participating in the SmartThings Find network can detect this signal.
  • The location information is then securely sent to the SmartThings server and displayed on your map in the SmartThings app, showing you where your SmartTag was last detected.
  • This feature allows you to retrace your steps and find items even if they are far away.

4.3 Finding Your Phone with SmartTag

You can also use your SmartTag to find your misplaced smartphone:

  • Double-press the button on your SmartTag.
  • Your connected Samsung Galaxy smartphone will ring, even if it's on silent mode, helping you locate it.

4.4 Attaching Your SmartTag

The SmartTag features a small hole designed for easy attachment:

  • Use a keyring, lanyard, or strap to attach the SmartTag to items like keys, backpacks, luggage, or pet collars.
  • Ensure the attachment method is secure to prevent accidental detachment.

5. Maintenance

5.1 Battery Replacement

The SmartTag uses a replaceable CR2032 coin cell battery. When the battery level is low, you will receive a notification in the SmartThings app.

  1. Gently pry open the SmartTag using a thin tool at the designated groove.
  2. Remove the old CR2032 battery.
  3. Insert a new CR2032 battery with the positive (+) side facing up.
  4. Align and firmly press the two halves of the SmartTag back together until they click.
  5. Dispose of the old battery responsibly according to local regulations.
