Eco-Drive Technology: How It Works
Citizen Eco-Drive watches are powered by any light source, natural or artificial. Light passes through the watch crystal and dial, striking a solar cell that converts light into electrical energy. This energy is then stored in a special rechargeable power cell. Once fully charged, your watch can run for an extended period, even in complete darkness, without needing further light exposure.

Setup
Initial Charging
Before first use, ensure your watch is fully charged. Expose the watch dial to bright light (natural sunlight is ideal, but artificial light also works) for several hours. The watch will begin to operate once it receives sufficient light. A full charge can power the watch for approximately 6 months, even if stored in the dark.
Setting the Time and Date
To set the time and date on your 3-hand date watch:
- Pull out the crown: Gently pull the crown (the knob on the side of the watch) out to the first or second click position. Refer to the detailed user guide for specific crown positions for time and date setting.
- Set the date: If applicable, rotate the crown in one direction to adjust the date. Avoid setting the date between 9 PM and 1 AM, as this can interfere with the automatic date change mechanism.
- Set the time: Rotate the crown in the opposite direction to move the hands and set the correct time. Ensure you distinguish between AM and PM when setting the time, especially for the date change.
- Push in the crown: Once the time and date are set, push the crown back into its normal position against the watch case to start the watch and ensure water resistance.
Operating
Timekeeping
Your watch displays time using three hands: hour, minute, and second. The second hand moves in one-second intervals, indicating normal operation.
Date Display
The date window, typically located at the 3 o'clock position, displays the current day of the month. The date will automatically advance at midnight.

Maintenance
Cleaning Your Watch
To maintain the appearance of your watch, wipe the case and crystal with a soft, dry cloth regularly. For the stainless steel bracelet, a soft brush with mild soap and water can be used, ensuring to rinse thoroughly and dry completely. Avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasive materials.
Water Resistance
This watch is water resistant to 50 meters (5 ATM). This rating means it is suitable for short periods of recreational swimming, showering, and general daily use where water exposure is minimal. It is not suitable for diving, snorkeling, or prolonged water immersion. Always ensure the crown is pushed in completely before any water exposure.
Maintaining Charge
To ensure continuous operation, expose your Eco-Drive watch to light regularly. If the watch is stored in darkness for an extended period, it may stop. Simply expose it to light again to reactivate it. The second hand may move in two-second intervals to indicate a low charge, prompting you to expose it to light.
Troubleshooting
- Watch has stopped or is running intermittently: This usually indicates insufficient charge. Expose the watch to bright light for several hours.
- Time or date is incorrect: Follow the "Setting the Time and Date" instructions in the Setup section to reset.
- Second hand moves in two-second intervals: This is a low charge indicator. Expose the watch to bright light immediately.
- Watch is not functioning after exposure to light: If the watch does not resume normal operation after adequate light exposure, or if you suspect a malfunction, please refer to the official user guide or contact Citizen customer support.
