This manual provides instructions for the setup, operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of your Apple Magic Keyboard. The Magic Keyboard is designed to enhance your iPad experience by providing a full-size keyboard, a trackpad, and front and back protection.

Setup

Attaching Your iPad

The Magic Keyboard features a magnetic attachment system. To attach your iPad:

  1. Open the Magic Keyboard.
  2. Align your compatible iPad with the magnetic back panel of the keyboard.
  3. The iPad will snap into place securely. Ensure the Smart Connector on the iPad aligns with the Smart Connector on the keyboard.

Initial Connection

Once attached, the Magic Keyboard connects instantly to your iPad via the Smart Connector. No Bluetooth pairing or separate charging for the keyboard is required. The keyboard draws power directly from the iPad.

Charging Your iPad

The Magic Keyboard includes a USB-C port on its hinge for pass-through charging of your iPad. This allows you to charge your iPad while keeping its primary USB-C port free for other accessories.

  • Connect a USB-C charging cable to the USB-C port on the left side of the Magic Keyboard's hinge.
  • Connect the other end of the cable to a power adapter.

Operating Instructions

Typing Experience

The Magic Keyboard features a comfortable, responsive typing experience with backlit keys and a scissor mechanism. The backlight automatically adjusts to ambient lighting conditions.

Trackpad Functionality

The integrated trackpad supports Multi-Touch gestures, allowing for precise cursor control and navigation within iPadOS. Refer to your iPad's settings for customizing trackpad gestures.

Adjusting Viewing Angle

The Magic Keyboard's floating cantilever design allows for smooth adjustment of your iPad to the optimal viewing angle. Simply tilt the iPad screen to your desired position.

Maintenance

Cleaning Instructions

To clean your Magic Keyboard:

  • Disconnect your iPad from the keyboard.
  • Use a soft, lint-free cloth, slightly dampened with water, to gently wipe the exterior surfaces.
  • Avoid getting moisture in any openings.
  • Do not use window cleaners, household cleaners, aerosol sprays, solvents, ammonia, abrasives, or cleaners containing hydrogen peroxide to clean the Magic Keyboard.

Storage and Protection

When not in use, fold the Magic Keyboard to provide front and back protection for your iPad. This helps safeguard both the iPad screen and the keyboard from scratches and impacts.

Troubleshooting

Keyboard or Trackpad Not Responding

  • Reattach the iPad: Detach your iPad from the Magic Keyboard and then reattach it, ensuring a firm connection to the Smart Connector.
  • Restart iPad: Restart your iPad. Sometimes a simple restart can resolve connectivity issues.
  • Clean Smart Connector: Ensure the Smart Connector on both the iPad and the Magic Keyboard are clean and free of debris. Use a soft, dry, lint-free cloth.
  • Check iPadOS: Ensure your iPad is running the latest version of iPadOS. Go to Settings > General > Software Update.

Backlight Not Working

  • Check Brightness Settings: Go to Settings > General > Keyboard > Hardware Keyboard and adjust the "Keyboard Brightness" slider.
  • Ambient Light: The backlight may appear off in brightly lit environments as it adjusts automatically.

Charging Issues

  • Verify Cable and Adapter: Ensure your USB-C cable and power adapter are functioning correctly. Try using them directly with your iPad's port.
  • Check Port: Ensure the USB-C port on the Magic Keyboard is free of debris.
