Operating Instructions

To provide stability, the base plates must be filled with a ballast material.

  1. Choose Ballast Material: You can fill each plate with either water or sand. Sand provides greater weight capacity.
    • When filled with water, the total weight capacity is approximately 195 lbs.
    • When filled with wet sand, the total weight capacity is approximately 195 lbs.
  2. Fill the Plates: Locate the twist-off caps on each plate. Unscrew the caps. Use the provided PVC funnel to easily pour water or sand into the large diameter injection ports. Two images showing the twist-off caps on the base plates and a hand holding a PVC funnel to fill the base.

  3. Secure the Caps: Once filled, securely twist the caps back onto the injection ports to ensure a water-tight seal and prevent leakage.
  4. Placement: Position the filled umbrella base in your desired outdoor location, such as a garden, courtyard, porch, or poolside. Ensure the surface is level. An open cantilever umbrella with a black base positioned on a patio overlooking a lake, with text 'Umbrella not included'.

Maintenance

  • Cleaning: The black surface of the base is stain-resistant and easy to maintain. Wipe down with a damp cloth and mild soap as needed. Rinse thoroughly.
  • Storage: For long-term storage or during winter months, it is recommended to empty the base plates of water or sand. The empty plates are lightweight and feature concave handles for easy movement. They can be stacked for space-saving storage.
  • Inspection: Periodically inspect the base for any signs of wear, cracks, or damage. Ensure all caps are securely fastened.

Troubleshooting

This section addresses common issues you might encounter with your umbrella base.

  • Base is unstable:
    • Ensure all four plates are properly connected and form a stable square.
    • Verify that the base plates are fully filled with water or sand.
    • Check that the umbrella pole is securely fastened within the base.
    • Ensure the base is placed on a flat, level surface.
  • Water leakage from caps:
    • Ensure the twist-off caps are tightened securely.
    • Inspect the caps and spouts for any damage or debris that might prevent a proper seal.
  • Difficulty filling with sand:
    • Ensure the sand is dry and free of large clumps or debris.
    • Use the provided funnel to aid in filling.
