5. Operating Instructions
5.1 Fueling the Engine
The AL-KO BC 260 MT uses a 2-stroke petrol engine. It requires a mixture of unleaded petrol and 2-stroke engine oil. Refer to the engine unit for the correct mixing ratio (typically 1:25 or 1:50, depending on oil type).
- Always mix fuel in a separate, approved container.
- Ensure the engine is off and cool before refueling.
- Refuel in a well-ventilated outdoor area, away from ignition sources.
- Wipe up any spilled fuel immediately.
5.2 Starting the Engine
- Place the tool on a flat, stable surface.
- Engage the choke (if cold start).
- Press the primer bulb several times until fuel is visible.
- Pull the starter cord firmly until the engine fires (may run briefly).
- Disengage the choke (if engaged).
- Pull the starter cord again until the engine runs smoothly.
- Allow the engine to warm up for a few moments before engaging the throttle.
5.3 Using the Line Trimmer / Brush Cutter

Figure 3: Operator using the AL-KO BC 260 MT with the line trimmer attachment for clearing grass.
- Attach either the Fast&Easy line spool or the brush cutter blade. Ensure the guard is correctly installed for the chosen attachment.
- For the line trimmer, tap the head on the ground while running at full throttle to advance the line. The Fast&Easy system allows for easy line replacement without opening the head.
- For the brush cutter, use a sweeping motion. Be aware of potential kickback when the blade strikes hard objects.
- Maintain a safe distance from obstacles and ensure stable footing.
5.4 Using the Hedge Trimmer

Figure 4: Operator using the AL-KO BC 260 MT with the hedge trimmer attachment to trim a hedge.
- Attach the hedge trimmer head.
- Use smooth, controlled movements to cut hedges. Avoid forcing the blades through thick branches.
- When using the extension shaft, be mindful of the increased leverage and maintain balance.
- Keep hands and body clear of the cutting blades.
5.5 Using the Pole Pruner

Figure 5: Operator using the AL-KO BC 260 MT with the pole pruner attachment to trim overhead branches.
- Attach the pole pruner head. Ensure the chain is properly tensioned and lubricated with chain oil.
- Always use the extension shaft for overhead pruning.
- Plan your cuts to avoid falling branches hitting you or others.
- Maintain a stable stance and keep the tool balanced. Be aware of kickback.
- Do not cut branches thicker than the recommended capacity of the saw.
