3. Setup

3.1 Attaching to the Nintendo Switch Console

  1. Ensure the Nintendo Switch console is powered on or in Sleep Mode.
  2. Align the Joy-Con (L) controller with the left rail of the console, matching the '+' button on the Joy-Con with the '+' symbol on the console.
  3. Slide the Joy-Con (L) downwards along the rail until you hear a click.
  4. Repeat the process for the Joy-Con (R) controller on the right rail, matching the '-' button with the '-' symbol.
  5. The Joy-Cons will automatically pair with the console.

3.2 Detaching from the Nintendo Switch Console

  1. Press and hold the small circular release button on the back of the Joy-Con controller (located near the top of the rail).
  2. While holding the button, slide the Joy-Con upwards along the rail to detach it from the console.
  3. Repeat for the other Joy-Con.

3.3 Pairing Detached Joy-Cons

If the Joy-Cons do not automatically pair when detached, or if pairing with a different console:

  1. From the HOME Menu, select "Controllers" > "Change Grip/Order".
  2. On the Joy-Con, press and hold the SYNC Button (small circular button on the side rail) for at least one second. The player LEDs will begin to flash.
  3. Once paired, the player LED(s) corresponding to the controller number will remain lit.

4. Operating Instructions

4.1 Basic Controls

The Joy-Con controllers feature standard button layouts for navigation and gameplay:

  • Left Joy-Con: Left Stick, Directional Buttons (Up, Down, Left, Right), - Button, Capture Button, SL/SR Buttons (on rail).
  • Right Joy-Con: Right Stick, A/B/X/Y Buttons, + Button, HOME Button, SL/SR Buttons (on rail).
  • Shoulder Buttons: L/ZL (Left Joy-Con), R/ZR (Right Joy-Con).

4.2 Motion Controls

Many Nintendo Switch games utilize the built-in motion sensors of the Joy-Cons for interactive gameplay. Follow on-screen prompts within games for specific motion control instructions.

4.3 Amiibo Functionality

To use an Amiibo figure with your Joy-Con controllers:

  1. During compatible gameplay, touch the Amiibo figure to the NFC touchpoint on the Right Joy-Con (usually over the Right Stick).
  2. The console will read the Amiibo data and unlock corresponding in-game features or items.

4.4 Detached Play

The Joy-Cons can be used detached from the console, either individually or as a pair, for flexible gameplay. The included wrist straps can be attached to the side rails for added security during active motion-controlled games.

5. Maintenance

  • Cleaning: Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the controllers. Avoid using liquids or abrasive cleaners.
  • Storage: Store controllers in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
  • Battery Care: The Joy-Cons contain rechargeable Lithium Ion batteries. Charge them regularly by attaching them to the Nintendo Switch console or a Joy-Con Charging Grip (sold separately). Avoid fully depleting the battery for extended periods.
  • Avoid Drops: Handle controllers with care to prevent damage from drops or impacts. Use the included wrist straps during active gameplay.
