5. Setup and Installation

The BGR LED security light can be installed on an existing mast arm, directly to a wall, or a wooden pole. Ensure power is disconnected before proceeding.

5.1 Installing the Photocell

  1. Align the arrow on the twist-lock photocell with the arrow on the receptacle located on top of the fixture.
  2. Push the photocell down firmly and twist clockwise until it clicks into place.

5.2 Mounting to a Wooden Pole or Wall

  1. Drill three 3/16" diameter pilot holes at the desired mounting location.
  2. Remove the knockout on the bottom cover plate of the fixture and feed the house supply wires through.
  3. Install two 2" screws into the bottom two pilot holes, leaving about 3/8" space under the head of each screw.
  4. Make wire connections: Connect the supply wires to the fixture wires using appropriate wire nuts (typically black to black, white to white, and green/bare to ground).
  5. Place the fixture housing onto the two bottom screws, aligning the keyholes on the mounting bracket with the screw heads.
  6. Install the third screw into the top pilot hole to secure the fixture.
  7. Tighten the two bottom screws to firmly secure the fixture to the surface.

5.3 Installing the Decorative Diffuser (Optional)

The fixture includes a detachable acrylic lens for traditional style and glare control. It can be removed for cut-off applications if desired.

  1. Align the keyholes along the diffuser rim with the three screw heads on the fixture.
  2. Push the diffuser up and rotate counter-clockwise to engage the keyholes.
  3. Tighten the screws to secure the diffuser in place.

6. Operating Instructions

The Lithonia Lighting BGR P2 LED Security Light is designed for automatic dusk-to-dawn operation via its integrated photocell.

  • Once properly installed and powered, the light will automatically turn on when ambient light levels fall below a certain threshold (dusk).
  • The light will automatically turn off when ambient light levels rise above a certain threshold (dawn).
  • No manual intervention is required for daily operation.

7. Maintenance

The BGR P2 LED Security Light requires minimal maintenance due to its long-lasting LED technology.

  • Cleaning: Periodically clean the lens and exterior housing with a soft, damp cloth to remove dirt, dust, or debris that may accumulate and affect light output or photocell performance. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
  • Photocell: Ensure the photocell is not obstructed by dirt, leaves, or other objects, as this can interfere with its dusk-to-dawn functionality.
  • Inspection: Regularly inspect the mounting hardware and wiring connections for any signs of wear, corrosion, or loosening. Tighten screws as needed.

8. Troubleshooting

Light flickers or dims. Loose wiring connection.
Voltage fluctuations.
Check and tighten all wiring connections. Consult an electrician if voltage issues are suspected.
Light is not as bright as expected. Dirty lens or diffuser. Clean the lens and diffuser with a soft, damp cloth.
