4. Setup

4.1 Battery Installation

The KAIWEETS KM100 requires two AAA batteries (included). To install or replace batteries:

  1. Ensure the multimeter is turned OFF.
  2. Locate the battery compartment cover on the back of the meter.
  3. Use a screwdriver to remove the screw securing the cover.
  4. Remove the cover and insert two AAA batteries, observing correct polarity (+ and -).
  5. Replace the cover and secure it with the screw.

4.2 Connecting Test Leads

Always connect the black test lead to the COM jack. Connect the red test lead to the appropriate input jack based on the measurement type:

  • For Voltage (AC/DC), Resistance, Continuity, and Diode measurements: Connect the red lead to the VΩmA jack.
  • For DC Current (up to 200mA) measurements: Connect the red lead to the VΩmA jack.
  • For High DC Current (up to 10A) measurements: Connect the red lead to the 10A jack.

5. Operating Instructions

To perform a measurement, follow these general steps:

  1. Connect the test leads correctly to the multimeter.
  2. Turn the rotary switch to the desired function and range.
  3. Connect the test probes to the circuit or component under test.
  4. Read the measurement value on the LCD display.

5.1 Measuring AC Voltage (V~)

This function measures alternating current voltage. Note: This meter cannot measure AC current.

  1. Connect the red test lead to the VΩmA jack and the black test lead to the COM jack.
  2. Turn the rotary switch to the "V~" range (e.g., 200V, 600V).
  3. Touch the test probes to the two points where you want to measure AC voltage.
  4. The AC voltage value will be displayed.

5.2 Measuring DC Voltage (V---)

This function measures direct current voltage.

  1. Connect the red test lead to the VΩmA jack and the black test lead to the COM jack.
  2. Turn the rotary switch to the "V---" range (e.g., 200mV, 2V, 20V, 200V, 600V).
  3. Touch the red probe to the positive side and the black probe to the negative side of the DC voltage source.
  4. The DC voltage value will be displayed.

5.3 Measuring DC Current (A---)

This function measures direct current. Important: Never measure AC current with this device.

  1. For currents up to 200mA: Connect the red test lead to the VΩmA jack and the black test lead to the COM jack.
  2. For currents up to 10A: Connect the red test lead to the 10A jack and the black test lead to the COM jack.
  3. Turn the rotary switch to the appropriate "A---" range (e.g., 200m, 10A).
  4. Open the circuit where you want to measure current and connect the multimeter in series with the circuit.
  5. The DC current value will be displayed.

5.4 Measuring Resistance (Ω)

This function measures the electrical resistance of a component.

  1. Ensure the circuit is de-energized before measuring resistance.
  2. Connect the red test lead to the VΩmA jack and the black test lead to the COM jack.
  3. Turn the rotary switch to the "Ω" range (e.g., 200Ω, 2kΩ, 20kΩ, 200kΩ, 2MΩ, 20MΩ).
  4. Touch the test probes across the component whose resistance you want to measure.
  5. The resistance value will be displayed.

5.5 Continuity Test (🔊)

This function checks for an open or closed circuit and emits an audible tone if continuity is detected.

  1. Ensure the circuit is de-energized before performing a continuity test.
  2. Connect the red test lead to the VΩmA jack and the black test lead to the COM jack.
  3. Turn the rotary switch to the continuity symbol (🔊).
  4. Touch the test probes across the component or circuit path.
  5. If continuity exists (low resistance), the meter will beep. The display will show the resistance value.

5.6 Diode Test (▶|)

This function checks the forward voltage drop of a diode.

  1. Ensure the diode is disconnected from any power source.
  2. Connect the red test lead to the VΩmA jack and the black test lead to the COM jack.
  3. Turn the rotary switch to the diode symbol (▶|).
  4. Touch the red probe to the anode and the black probe to the cathode of the diode.
  5. The forward voltage drop (typically 0.5V to 0.8V for silicon diodes) will be displayed. Reversing the probes should show an "OL" (Overload) reading for a good diode.

5.7 Special Functions: Data Hold and Backlight

  • Data Hold (H): Press the "H" button to freeze the current reading on the display. Press it again to release.
  • Backlight: Press the backlight button to illuminate the display for better visibility in dark environments. Press it again to turn off the backlight.

6. Maintenance

6.1 General Care

  • Keep the multimeter clean and dry. Use a soft, damp cloth for cleaning; do not use abrasives or solvents.
  • Store the meter in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
  • If the meter is not used for an extended period, remove the batteries to prevent leakage.
