2. Safety Information

Before using the KAIWEETS HT208D Clamp Meter, please read and understand all safety warnings and operating instructions. Failure to follow these instructions may result in electric shock, fire, or serious injury.

  • Always adhere to local and national safety codes.
  • Do not use the meter if it appears damaged or if the insulation on the test leads is compromised.
  • Ensure the rotary switch is in the correct position for the desired measurement before connecting the test leads.
  • Do not exceed the maximum input values for any function. This meter is rated for CAT III 1000V and CAT IV 600V.
  • Use caution when working with voltages above 30V AC RMS, 42V peak, or 60V DC, as these pose a shock hazard.
  • When measuring current with the clamp, ensure the clamp is around a single conductor only.
  • Replace batteries immediately when the low battery indicator appears to ensure accurate readings.

5. Operating Instructions

This section details how to perform various measurements using your KAIWEETS HT208D Clamp Meter.

5.1 General Operation

  1. Turn the rotary dial to the desired measurement function.
  2. Press the FUNC button to cycle through sub-functions (e.g., AC/DC voltage, resistance/continuity/diode/capacitance).
  3. The meter features auto-ranging, automatically selecting the appropriate range for most measurements.
  4. Press HOLD to freeze the current reading on the display. Press again to release.
  5. Press MAX/MIN to record maximum and minimum values.

5.2 AC/DC Voltage Measurement

To measure AC or DC voltage:

  1. Connect the test leads as described in Section 4.3.
  2. Turn the rotary dial to the 'V~' (AC Voltage) or 'V=' (DC Voltage) position. The meter will automatically detect AC or DC.
  3. Touch the test probes to the circuit points where voltage is to be measured.

5.3 AC Current Measurement (Clamp)

To measure AC current using the clamp:

  1. Turn the rotary dial to the 'A~' (AC Current) position.
  2. Press the trigger to open the clamp jaws.
  3. Enclose a single conductor with the clamp jaws. Ensure the conductor is centered within the jaws for accurate readings.
  4. The current reading will be displayed.

5.4 Inrush Current Measurement

The Inrush function is used to measure the initial surge of current when a device, such as a motor, is first powered on.

  1. Turn the rotary dial to the 'A~' (AC Current) position.
  2. Press the INRUSH button (if available, or refer to specific model instructions for activation).
  3. Clamp around the single conductor of the device to be measured.
  4. Power on the device. The meter will capture and display the peak inrush current.

7. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your KAIWEETS HT208D, refer to the following common problems and solutions:

  • No Display: Check battery installation and ensure batteries are not depleted.
  • Incorrect Readings: Verify the correct function is selected, test leads are properly connected, and the measurement range is appropriate (though auto-ranging handles most cases). Ensure the clamp is around a single conductor for current measurements.
  • No Continuity Beep: Ensure the meter is in continuity mode and the circuit is not open.
  • NCV Not Detecting: Ensure the NCV function is active and the meter is close enough to the live conductor.
