1. Introduction
Thank you for choosing the WilTec EPC-5.1 Pressure Switch. This device is designed to maintain constant water pressure in domestic water systems, garden pumps, and other water pumps. It automatically monitors water pressure, starting the pump when pressure drops and stopping it when the desired pressure is reached. The integrated dry-run protection feature safeguards your pump by shutting it off if water supply is insufficient. This manual provides essential information for the safe and efficient installation, operation, and maintenance of your pressure switch.

2. Safety Instructions
Please read these safety instructions carefully before installation and operation. Failure to follow these instructions may result in electric shock, fire, serious injury, or property damage.
- Electrical Safety: Ensure the power supply matches the device's specifications (230V). Always disconnect the power before any installation, maintenance, or repair work. Do not operate the device with damaged cables or plugs.
- Water Pressure: The device operates with water pressure. Ensure all connections are secure and leak-free to prevent water damage. Do not exceed the maximum operating pressure of 10 bar.
- Professional Installation: Electrical and plumbing work should only be performed by qualified personnel.
- Environment: Install the device in a dry, well-ventilated area, protected from frost and direct sunlight.
- Children and Pets: Keep the device out of reach of children and pets.
- Over 1.1 kW Pumps: If your pump's power exceeds 1.1 kW, a standard power contactor or appropriate power relay must be connected upstream.
3. Product Overview
The WilTec EPC-5.1 Pressure Switch is an automatic pump control unit consisting of both hydraulic and electronic components.
3.1. Hydraulic Components
- Stop Valve: Controls water flow.
- Flow Variation Valve: Reacts to changes in water flow.
- Reinforced Plastic Body: Durable housing for internal components.
- Diaphragm and Spring: Responds to pressure variations.
- Safety Valve: Prevents water leakage if the membrane is damaged.
3.2. Electronic Components
- Sealed Housing: Made of self-extinguishing plastic.
- Electronic Board: Unique, tested, and verified with insulated conductive tracks.
- Relay: Switching capacity of approximately 100,000 cycles for continuous operation with a maximum load of 1.1 kW.
- Varistor: Protects against voltage spikes.

4. Installation
Proper installation is crucial for the optimal performance and longevity of your pressure switch.
4.1. Pre-Installation Checks
- Ensure the power supply is disconnected before starting.
- Verify that the pump's power consumption does not exceed 1.1 kW. If it does, a separate power contactor or relay is required (see section 4.3).
- Check all connections for damage or defects.
4.2. Connecting the Pressure Switch
- Mounting: Mount the pressure switch vertically in the water line, ensuring the flow direction matches the arrows on the device.
- Water Inlet/Outlet: Connect the water inlet to the pump's discharge port and the water outlet to your domestic water system or irrigation line. Use appropriate sealing tape (e.g., PTFE tape) on threaded connections to prevent leaks.
- Electrical Connection: The EPC-5.1 comes with an integrated plug and cable. Connect the pump's power cable to the socket on the pressure switch. Then, plug the pressure switch's integrated cable into a suitable 230V power outlet.
- Priming the Pump: Before starting, ensure your pump is properly primed according to its own instruction manual. The pressure switch requires water flow to operate correctly.
4.3. Connecting Pumps Over 1.1 kW
For pumps with a power rating exceeding 1.1 kW, it is mandatory to connect a standard power contactor or an appropriate power relay upstream of the pressure switch. This prevents overloading the internal relay of the EPC-5.1. For 380/400V three-phase pumps, a 380V power contactor can be used for control. Consult a qualified electrician for such installations.

5. Operating Instructions
The EPC-5.1 pressure switch is designed for automatic operation.
5.1. Initial Startup
- After ensuring all connections are secure and the pump is primed, connect the pressure switch to the main power supply.
- The "Power on" indicator light will illuminate.
- The pump will start automatically and run until the system reaches the cut-off pressure (typically when water flow stops, e.g., closing a tap).
5.2. Automatic Function
- The pressure switch continuously monitors water pressure and flow.
- When a water consumer (e.g., tap, shower) is opened, the pressure drops, and the pressure switch automatically starts the pump. The "Pump on" indicator light will illuminate.
- When the water consumer is closed, the pressure rises, and the pressure switch stops the pump. The "Pump on" indicator light will turn off.
- The device maintains a constant water pressure during operation.
5.3. Dry-Run Protection
- In case of water shortage (e.g., well runs dry), the pressure switch detects the lack of water flow and activates the dry-run protection.
- The pump will stop, and the "Failure" indicator light will illuminate. This protects the pump from damage caused by running without water.
- To reset the dry-run protection, ensure there is sufficient water supply, then press the "Restart" button on the control panel. The pump will attempt to restart.
6. Maintenance
Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and reliable operation of your WilTec EPC-5.1 Pressure Switch.
- Cleaning: Periodically clean the exterior of the device with a damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents. Ensure no water enters the electrical components.
- Connection Checks: Regularly inspect all water and electrical connections for leaks, corrosion, or damage. Tighten any loose connections.
- Winterization: If the device is installed in an area prone to freezing temperatures, it must be drained and disconnected during winter to prevent damage from ice expansion.
- Filter Check: If your system includes a pre-filter, ensure it is clean and not clogged, as this can affect water flow and pressure.
7. Troubleshooting
Before contacting support, please refer to the following troubleshooting guide for common issues.
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Pump does not start. | No power supply. Dry-run protection activated ("Failure" light on). Pump malfunction. | Check power connection and circuit breaker. Ensure water supply, then press "Restart" button. Check pump's own manual or consult a technician. |
| Pump runs continuously. | Leak in the system. Insufficient water supply. Pressure switch malfunction. | Inspect all pipes and connections for leaks. Check water source. If dry-run protection doesn't activate, it might be a fault. Contact support. |
| "Failure" light is on. | Dry-run protection activated due to lack of water. | Ensure adequate water supply to the pump, then press the "Restart" button. |
| Inconsistent water pressure. | Air in the system. Partial blockage. Pump issues. | Bleed air from the system. Check filters and pipes for blockages. Refer to pump manual. |
