Setup

Follow these steps to prepare your binoculars for optimal viewing:

1. Adjusting Eyecups

The Engage X binoculars feature twist-up eyecups. Rotate the eyecups up or down to achieve the proper eye relief. If you wear eyeglasses, you may prefer to keep the eyecups in the down position. If you do not wear eyeglasses, extend the eyecups fully for comfortable viewing.

2. Adjusting Diopter

The diopter adjustment compensates for differences in vision between your left and right eyes. To adjust:

  1. Cover the right objective lens (front lens) with your hand.
  2. Look through the binoculars with your left eye at a distant object. Rotate the center focus knob until the image is sharp.
  3. Cover the left objective lens with your hand.
  4. Look through the binoculars with your right eye at the same object. Rotate the diopter adjustment ring (located on the right eyepiece) until the image is sharp.
  5. Your binoculars are now adjusted for your eyes. Use only the center focus knob for future focusing.

3. Focusing

Once the diopter is set, use the large center focus knob to bring objects into sharp focus. Turn the knob slowly until the image is clear.

Operating Instructions

To use your Bushnell Engage X binoculars:

  1. Hold the binoculars up to your eyes.
  2. Adjust the interpupillary distance by moving the two halves of the binoculars closer together or further apart until you see a single, clear circular field of view.
  3. Use the center focus knob to bring your desired object into sharp focus.
  4. For extended viewing, the binoculars are tripod compatible. Locate the threaded port on the front hinge and attach a tripod adapter (sold separately).

Maintenance

Proper care and maintenance will ensure the longevity and performance of your binoculars.

Cleaning Lenses

Use the provided cleaning cloth or a soft, lint-free cloth to gently wipe the lens surfaces. For stubborn smudges or dirt, a small amount of lens cleaning fluid designed for optics can be applied to the cloth, not directly to the lens.

EXO Barrier Technology

The EXO Barrier coating helps keep your lenses clear by repelling water, oil, fog, dust, and debris. While this reduces the need for frequent cleaning, always handle your lenses with care to avoid scratching the coating.

Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your binoculars, consider the following:

  • Unclear Image: Ensure the center focus knob and diopter adjustment are correctly set for your vision. Check for dirt or smudges on the lenses and clean them gently.
  • Double Image: Adjust the interpupillary distance (the distance between the two halves of the binoculars) until a single, circular field of view is achieved.
  • Fogging: While IPX7 waterproof, extreme temperature changes can sometimes cause internal fogging. Allow the binoculars to acclimate to the ambient temperature.
