2.2 NVR Placement

Place the NVR in a secure, dry location away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. Ensure adequate ventilation around the unit. Avoid placing heavy objects directly on the NVR to prevent damage.

2.3 Camera Installation

The 5MP bullet IP cameras are designed for both indoor and outdoor use, featuring IP66 weatherproof housing. Select strategic locations that provide optimal viewing angles and coverage. Use the provided mounting screws and plugs to securely attach the cameras. The PoE (Power over Ethernet) design simplifies wiring, as a single Cat5e Ethernet cable provides both power and video transmission.

  • Software Updates: Regularly check for and install firmware updates for your NVR and the Swann Security App to benefit from the latest features and security enhancements.
  • NVR Ventilation: Ensure the NVR has adequate airflow and is not obstructed by objects to prevent overheating.

5. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your Swann security system, refer to the following common troubleshooting steps:

ProblemPossible Cause / Solution
No video feed from camera
  • Check the Ethernet cable connection between the camera and NVR.
  • Ensure the NVR is powered on and functioning.
  • Verify the camera is receiving power via PoE.
Poor image quality
  • Clean the camera lens.
  • Ensure the camera is properly focused (if applicable).
  • Check network bandwidth if streaming remotely.
False motion alerts
  • Adjust the sensitivity settings for True Detect.
  • Configure customizable monitored zones to exclude areas with frequent non-threatening movement (e.g., swaying trees).
No audio recording
  • Ensure audio recording is enabled in the NVR settings.
  • For optimal audio, set the camera frame rate to 20 frames per second (fps) or higher in settings.
App crashes or connectivity issues
  • Ensure your Swann Security App is updated to the latest version.
  • Check your internet connection and NVR's network status.
  • Restart the app and/or your mobile device.
Power outage concerns
  • Consider connecting the NVR to an Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) to maintain operation during brief power interruptions and allow for proper shutdown.
  • Ensure surge protection is used for all power connections.
