6. Maintenance and Cleaning

Proper cleaning and maintenance are crucial for hygiene and the longevity of your breast pump. All parts that come into contact with breast milk are BPA-free.

  1. Disassembly: Disassemble all parts that came into contact with breast milk (silicone cushion, pump body, valve, bottle). Do not wash the motor unit or tubing.
  2. Rinsing: Rinse all disassembled parts under cold running water immediately after use to remove any residual milk.
  3. Cleaning: Wash the parts in warm soapy water using a soft brush. Ensure all milk residue is removed. Alternatively, most parts are dishwasher safe (top rack only).
  4. Sterilization: Sterilize the cleaned parts by boiling them in water for 5 minutes, using a steam sterilizer, or a microwave sterilizer.
  5. Drying: Allow all parts to air dry completely on a clean surface or use a clean cloth. Store in a clean, dry place.
  6. Tubing: The tubing does not require cleaning as the closed system prevents milk from entering it. If condensation appears in the tubing, disconnect it from the pump body and motor unit, and run the pump for a few minutes to air dry the tubing.

7. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your breast pump, refer to the following common solutions:

  • No Suction or Weak Suction:
    • Ensure all pump parts are correctly assembled and securely connected.
    • Check that the silicone cushion forms a tight seal around your breast.
    • Inspect the valve for any tears or damage. A damaged valve can significantly reduce suction. Replace if necessary.
    • Verify that the tubing is not kinked, blocked, or disconnected.
  • Pump Not Turning On:
    • Ensure the Micro-USB cable is securely connected to both the motor unit and the power source.
    • Try a different power outlet or USB adapter.
  • Discomfort During Pumping:
    • Adjust the stimulation or expression level to a more comfortable setting.
    • Ensure your nipple is centered in the silicone cushion and that the cushion size is appropriate for your nipple.
    • Try different pumping positions to find what is most comfortable for you.
  • Milk Not Flowing:
    • Ensure you are adequately hydrated and relaxed.
    • Start with stimulation mode until milk let-down occurs before switching to expression mode.
    • Massage your breast gently before or during pumping.
