3. Setup

3.1 Initial Charge

Your Eco-Drive watch is powered by light. Before initial use, ensure the watch is fully charged. Place the watch in direct sunlight or under bright artificial light for several hours. The power reserve indicator will show the charge level. A full charge can last up to 75 days without further light exposure.

3.2 Setting the Time and Date

The PCAT Chronograph features atomic timekeeping for automatic synchronization. However, manual adjustment may be necessary if the watch has been in an area without signal reception or for initial setup.

  1. Time Zone Selection: Pull the crown out to position 1. Rotate the crown to select your desired city code (time zone) on the dial.
  2. Atomic Signal Reception: For best reception, place the watch near a window, facing the direction of the nearest atomic clock signal (e.g., Fort Collins, CO, for North America). The watch will attempt to receive the signal automatically overnight.
  3. Manual Time Adjustment (if needed): Refer to the detailed user guide for specific instructions on manual time and date setting, as this process involves multiple steps for the perpetual calendar and chronograph functions.

For a comprehensive guide on setting up your watch, including detailed instructions for all functions, please refer to the official PDF manual available at: Citizen Eco-Drive PCAT Chronograph User Manual (PDF).

4. Operating Instructions

4.1 Chronograph Operation

The chronograph function allows for precise timing of events.

  • Start/Stop: Press the upper right pusher (A) to start and stop the chronograph.
  • Reset: While the chronograph is stopped, press the lower right pusher (B) to reset the chronograph hands to zero.

4.2 Alarm Function

The watch features an alarm that can be set for a specific time.

  • Setting the Alarm: Rotate the crown to the 'ALM' mode. Use the pushers to set the desired alarm time.
  • Activating/Deactivating: Follow the specific instructions in the full manual to toggle the alarm on or off.

4.3 Power Reserve Check

To check the current power reserve, pull the crown out to position 1 and rotate it to the 'CHR' mode. The second hand will indicate the power reserve level on the dial.

5. Maintenance

5.1 Cleaning

Wipe the watch regularly with a soft, dry cloth to remove dirt and smudges. For the bracelet, a soft brush and mild soapy water can be used, ensuring to rinse thoroughly and dry immediately. Avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasive materials.

5.2 Charging Habits

To maintain optimal performance, expose your Eco-Drive watch to light regularly. Avoid prolonged storage in dark places, as this can deplete the rechargeable power cell. If the watch stops, expose it to bright light to restart and recharge it.

5.3 Water Resistance

The watch is water resistant to 200 meters (WR200). This rating is suitable for professional marine activity and serious surface water sports, but not for diving. Ensure the crown is pushed in completely before exposing the watch to water. Do not operate the crown or pushers while the watch is wet or submerged.

6. Troubleshooting

6.1 Watch Not Running / Hands Not Moving

  • Cause: Insufficient charge.
  • Solution: Expose the watch to bright light (direct sunlight is best) for several hours to fully recharge.

6.2 Incorrect Time / Date

  • Cause: Loss of atomic signal, incorrect time zone setting, or manual misalignment.
  • Solution: Ensure the watch is exposed to an atomic signal for automatic correction. Verify the correct time zone is selected. If issues persist, perform a manual time and date adjustment as per the full user manual.

6.3 Chronograph Not Resetting to Zero

  • Cause: Hands misalignment.
  • Solution: Refer to the full user manual for instructions on chronograph hand alignment. This typically involves pulling the crown out and using the pushers to adjust the hands to their zero positions.
