4. Operation
4.1 Making Espresso
- Preheat: Turn on the machine and allow it to preheat for at least 15-20 minutes. The pressure gauge should reach the optimal brewing zone. Place your espresso cups on the cup warming plate.
- Prepare Portafilter: Insert the desired filter basket (1-cup or 2-cup) into the portafilter.
- Dose Coffee: Grind fresh coffee beans to a fine consistency. Use the measuring spoon to add ground coffee to the filter basket. For a single shot, use one level spoon; for a double, use two.
- Tamp Coffee: Use the tamper end of the measuring spoon to press the coffee grounds firmly and evenly. Ensure the surface is level.
- Attach Portafilter: Wipe any excess coffee from the rim of the portafilter. Attach the portafilter to the group head by inserting it and turning it firmly to the right until it is secure.
- Brew Espresso: Place preheated espresso cups under the portafilter spouts. Press the espresso button. The machine will begin extracting espresso.
- Monitor Extraction: A good espresso shot typically takes 20-30 seconds to extract. Stop the flow by pressing the espresso button again once the desired volume is reached.
- Remove Portafilter: Carefully remove the portafilter by turning it to the left. Discard the used coffee grounds (puck).

4.2 Frothing Milk
The professional swiveling milk frothing nozzle allows you to create creamy milk foam for cappuccinos and lattes.
- Prepare Milk: Fill the stainless steel milk frothing pitcher with cold milk (dairy or non-dairy) up to about one-third full.
- Activate Steam: Press the steam button on the control panel. Wait for the steam indicator light to illuminate, indicating the machine has reached steaming temperature.
- Purge Steam Wand: Briefly open the steam knob to release any condensed water from the wand into the drip tray. Close the knob.
- Froth Milk: Immerse the tip of the steam wand just below the surface of the milk in the pitcher. Open the steam knob.
- Create Foam: Hold the pitcher at an angle, moving it slightly up and down to incorporate air and create foam. Once the milk has increased in volume and reached the desired temperature (around 60-70°C), close the steam knob.
- Clean Wand: Immediately wipe the steam wand with a damp cloth to remove any milk residue. Briefly open the steam knob again to clear any milk from inside the wand.

6. Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues with your GASTROBACK 42615, refer to the following common problems and solutions.

| Weak espresso / Watery coffee | Coffee too coarsely ground, insufficient coffee dose, under-tamped. | Use finer grind, increase coffee dose, tamp more firmly. |
| No steam from wand | Machine not at steaming temperature, steam wand clogged. | Wait for steam indicator light, clean steam wand, purge wand. |
| Machine leaks | Water tank not seated correctly, drip tray full, seal issues. | Ensure water tank is secure, empty drip tray, contact support if seals are damaged. |
